Education
B.S. Mechanical Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign May 2016
EIT Licensed in Illinois GPA: 3.63/4.00
Key Coursework:
Design for Manufacturability
Fatigue/Failure Analysis
Mech. Design (FEA, CAD)
Mechatronics
Mechanics of Materials
Numerical Manufacturing Control
Projects
Senior Design Project for Sun Buckets, Inc. Jan-May, 2016
Researched Sun Buckets’ solar energy collector, a charger for their thermal energy storage vessel
Evaluated existing concentrator, chose project goals (faster charge time, lower losses, easier use)
Developed automated sun-tracking replacement model requiring only hand tools to assemble
Built prototype concentrator, fully actuated on one axis with lower power draw than required
Improvements showed 24% decrease in record charging time in field test
Microcontroller/Robotics Programming (Mechatronics Class) Jan-May, 2016
Created controls, tracking, path planning, and image recognition code in C, LabVIEW for robot
Integrated live sampled data from LADAR, IR/ultrasonic sensors, cameras, in control algorithms
Used digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and serial port text interfaces to troubleshoot robots
Transmission Design and FEA Projects (Mechanical Design Class) Aug-Dec, 2015
Designed and built 2-speed transmission with idle and reverse with 3D printed nylon gearing
Improved transmission power output 26% between the first and second evaluations of the project
Analyzed excavator arm, assembly pieces under load using Creo Simulate FEA software
Experience
Homebuilding Intern at Project Mexico Summers 2013-2016, Rosarito, Mexico
Ran summer-long volunteer homebuilding program for participants from across USA and Canada
Led construction of 18 small homes with volunteer teams over the course of 4 summers
Taught construction methods, managed build teams, directed labor, and troubleshot process issues
Learned use of tools, manufacturing techniques, mechanical maintenance, process management
Directed morning and evening program for volunteers, arranging meals and activities for 100+
Communicated with native speakers daily in Spanish
Extracurriculars
President of University of Illinois Orthodox Christian Fellowship Aug 2015-May 2016
Planned events and weekly meetings for group of 30+ members
Supervised and directed a board of 7 members in planning meetings and events
Saved over $200 of yearly budget by eliminating unnecessary spending
Tutor at U of I Center for Academic Resources in Engineering Jan 2015-May 2016
