High School Teaching Experience
K-12 Insight of Kansas, Olathe, Kansas, which is an online high school for teens and adults. As an instructor I taught English I, II, III, and IV plus journalism, creative writing, and British and World literature. In addition, I made professional development presentations entitled “Recognizing the Differences in Teenage and Adult Learners” and “The Need for Advisory Councils for Adult Students.”
Missouri Virtual School, Jefferson City, Missouri, was Missouri’s online school. The school as it was at that time no longer exists. I was an online instructor teaching English courses for high school students both regular and honors.
North Callaway R-I School District, Kingdom City, Missouri, where I was the instructor for dual credit creative writing and introduction to world literature as well as high school English I, II, III, and IV, ACT Prep, Student Success, science fiction, ethnic literature, and mythology. I was also responsible for the development of these courses and a literacy essentials course. At-risk students who were reading at least two grade levels lower than their present grade took this class. On average, student reading levels were raised 2.5 grade levels in one school year. In addition, I served as department chair and district professional development team member.
Columbia School District, Columbia, Missouri, had an Evenstart program. I was the GED facilitator and the parenting educator making home visits and developing home projects for parents and their students.
