Job Description:

Summary Function: The staff nurse is responsible for the delivery of proper patient care within the unit of assignment.Assist the head nurse, directs and supervises the care provided by nursing aides and other paramedical personnel within the unit. It interacts expertly and professionally with physicians and other medical personnel to implement patient care plans.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Gets the endorsement from the outgoing staff nurse. Endorsement include patient assignment and department inventory.

Receives and endorses ward equipments and supplies.

Gives report to charge nurse on next shift and count narcotics with her.

Observe signs and symptoms. Institutes remedial actions when appropriate and record these in chart.

Identifies nursing needs of patient. Plans, gives and evaluates nursing care. Gives direct nursing care.

Communicates patients needs;makes referrals.

Reports to the head nurse any interruption in the care plan of patient

Notifies clinical nurse or supervisor about any unusual problems for severe changes in any patients condition.

Receives reports from nursing aide, pulmonary aide, rehab and other patient care personnel as team to care they given and each patient condition.

Performs irrigation,catheterizations and give enemas.

Carries out doctors legal orders.

Prepare patients for and assists physicians with diagnostics and therapeutic procedures.

Give health teachings.

Delivers direct patient care; assesses patient physical, psychosocial and or emotional needs,provides patient and family teaching;triages patient needs and informs physician of patient status;responds to phone messages from patients and informs physicians as needed;orders supplies stocks and maintains patients rooms sterilizes instruments.

Participates in institutes, workshops and research programs for the improvement of patient care.

Administer medications as assigned;serves as a resource person for knowledge of medication uses, side effects and dosage; checks for proper medication order, documents medications; obtains required consent forms to administer immunizations, notifies pharmacies of physician approved prescriptions; reviews drug samples to insure they have not exceeded the expiration date; labels sample drugs and educates patients of medication administration.

Performs other duties as assigned and required by the head nurse, supervisor, nursing director,and hospital administrator.
