Aviva bought Bankers Life in New York. I was called back in to continue support of the CAPS-IL system

Duties included analyzing all rate& mortality information by exporting and importing admin system tables into Excel. I wrote extensive macros to reformat production data into an actuarial accessible format.

Analyzed all policy related data and used Excel to denote data problems from previous conversion efforts. I also used Excel for queries given that this legacy system was not SQL compliant. These queries reduced system overhead given all policy information could be obtained from the spreadsheets.

Responsible for maintenance on the companies existing CAPS-IL Admin system. Duties included conversion of 300,000 policies across 29 different companies. The block of business was converted from the Lifepro OS/2 software package.

Duties included end-user training on modifications required for the new block of business. Was the overseer of all programming staff to ensure the data transfer was successful. Performed data screening to ensure all data was validated at the source. Was coordinator between management and users on the conversion effort.

Created a VBA interface to change passwords for access to the CAPS-IL system. This module would allow the creation, modification or removal of users from the main system.

Software – COBOL, CICS, BTRIEVE, SQL, OS/2, REXX, DB2, Changeman, VisualAge, Microfocus, Excel, VBA

Hardware – IBM PC, NT Networking, Mainframe

ALLIED INSURANCE COMPANY, Des Moines, IA 05/2005 – 05/2007

Worked 2nd shift starting in January 2006

Responsible for migration of personal line P&C business from Allied to Nationwide

Duties included software migration, job control migration, viability testing, system flow

Created Excel VBA job control flow. I used the job scheduler to denote which tasks were run. The VBA coding showed the job control flow per process (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.).

This company is in the process of merging best-of-breed applications between Allied & Nationwide. My duties included coordinating all migrations of the personal line business to the Nationwide environment. This included regression testing, software enhancements (where needed) and job control. The Allied environment was unique in that the job scheduler used a prerequisite approach to process. The new environment required a predecessor / successor scheduling approach. Given this change, I created a system flow document to show how to convert the jobs from one environment to the other.

Created Excel modules to convert rating tables to mainframe format. This process required importing a variety of Excel rate calculation spreadsheets and combining this data to produce the DB2 equivalent import file. This task also required reporting of new changes of rates. The previous was also done through Excel.

Modified mainframe Auto Insurance system

Software – COBOL, CICS, DB2, SQL, REXX, Excel, Changeman, VBA

Hardware – IBM Mainframe
