Investigation of signaling pathways when treating human glioma cells with P38 MAPK and Akt inhibitors, and with MK2 siRNA.
Senior Research Coordinator
1993 - 2013: Barbara Jane Levy Laboratory of Molecular Neuro-Oncology, Hermelin Brain Tumor Center, Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI
Novel discovery that SPARC is upregulated in invasive Glioblastoma using a Subtractive Hybridization, thus changing the focus of the research in the Rempel lab for the last two decades.
Cloned SPARC into a tetracycline inducible vector, and then transfected a low expressing U87 cell line, increasing SPARC expression levels and altering the subsequent tumor phenotype in xenografts into one of high invasiveness.
Cloned SPARC into a GFP expression vector to study SPARC interactions using Fluorescent Microscopy, Imaging.
DNA and RNA isolation, Southerns, Northerns, cDNA Arrays, Cloning, Subcloning, Transformations. Subtractive Hybridizations, Differential Display.
Transfections, both transient and stable, and Lentiviral transfections.
Protein Isolations, Western Detections.
Trained and supervised medical fellows, Neurosurgery Residents, graduate students, summer students.
Played an integral role in the Rempel lab for three RO1 grants from the NIH, as well as various internal grants at Henry Ford Hospital.
Research Assistant/Lab Manager
1986- 1993: Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Wayne State University,
Detroit, MI
Cloning and mapping human genes on chromosome 3 using somatic cell hybrids.
DNA isolations, both plasmid and genomic.
Agarose gel electrophoresis, Restriction enzyme digestions, Sothern transfers, Southern hybridizations, Random primer labeling, pulsed field gel electrophoresis.
Trained and supervised summer students, medical students, undergraduate students, and Residents.
Directly involved in the research leading to the lab of Dr. David I. Smith obtaining RO1 funding from the NIH.
