University of Maryland - College Park, Research Assistant Dec 2014- May 2016 Two dimensional materials for Li/Na/K ion rechargeable batteries

Designed and built a planar micro-battery platform that enabled in situ electrochemical, optical and electrical transport measurements.

Assembled half/full batteries in Glove box; tested batteries with electrochemical workstation, LAND and ARBIN systems; analyzed data with EIS, CV, and Galvanic Cycling.

Expertise in transparent/conductive thin film preparation, wet chemistry and lithography.

Achieved best combination of transmittance and sheet resistance in scalable graphene-based materials for transparent electrodes/display. Manufacturable 2D material composites for electronic applications

Produced low-cost, printable graphene oxide ink, BN ink, MoS2 ink, NbSe2 ink and WSe2 ink.

Fabricated functional fiber and paper with 2D materials. Failure mechanisms and risk analysis

Analyzed failure mechanisms of lithium/sodium-based batteries and proposed effective solutions.

Performed electrical/mechanical/thermal tests to evaluate batteries’ abuse tolerance.

Proficient in mechanistic analysis of physical/chemical/thermal failures in electronic devices. Photonics Projects, Project Team Leader, College Park, MD Sep 2015- Dec 2015

Led 2 undergraduate students to design and build an erbium-doped optical amplifier in real use.

Led 4 graduate students to develop a PLZT phase modulator that losses the least power in the process. University of Utah, Research Assistant Aug 2012- May 2014 Sawing induced damage and unintentional doping in InSb wafers, Sponsored by Sylarus Technologies

Investigated how to reduce sawing-induced cracks and dopant defects in InSb wafer in order to meet its reliability goal.

Modified native defect incorporation via post annealing and controlling cooling rate through bulk diffusivity. Materials Characterization

Manufactured ceramic products using tape casting and die pressing techniques.

Experienced in solar cells and LEDs.

Used SEM/EDS/XRD/TEM/AFM/strength/fracture toughness/hardness to test and determine materials properties. Bridge Design Project, Project Team Co-Leader, Salt Lake City, UT Jun 2010- Jul 2010

Led a team of 4 students to fabricate and test a wooden popsicle stick bridge designed to optimize the load-to-strength ratio.

Placed 1st for the best load-to-strength ratio and received an A on the project. Mentor Experience

1) Mentored 3 undergraduate students on 2D material project at University of Maryland. May 2015- Aug 2015 Activities & Associations

Chinese Students and Scholars Association, Vice President, Team Leader, Salt Lake City, UT Aug 2010- May 2014

Organized Chinese Spring Festival gala and Moon Festival gala; designed posters and logo for CSSA. American Cancer Society, Special Events Assistant, New York, NY Jan 2008- Mar 2010

Led “Rely for Life”, a fund raising event and involved in some special events, such as Strides Against Breast Cancer and Galas. Awards

Dean’s list of excellency for students with GPA 3.5+ for three consequent years, 2011-2013.
