PERSONAL STATEMENT
VICTOR EMENYI POST: TEACHER OF ENGLISH
I am an achiever; I am someone who likes challenges (positive of course) going through my profile, it becomes obvious that I like adventure. Kaduna, Abuja, Lagos. This experience can never be bought with money. I can convincingly talk about students’ perceptions toward English and Literature in English based on the fact that, I have seen it all in these places I have so far taught. Your school will (by His grace) be part of my experience and indeed my dream place to be.
Your school is being known for her dexterity in delivering quality education to students from diverse background and educational abilities. My experience in teaching at various private schools in Nigeria, has afforded me the opportunities to juxtapose my professional competence alongside my students abilities and draw a logical conclusion to the fact that teaching is universal. It requires in-depth knowledge of the facilitator (the teacher) and the abilities of the recipients (students) for an effective learning to occur. That is why, in the course of my teaching, I adopt both the differentiation and enquiry based techniques – team work – where the weak student gradually assimilate what he/she learns from his/her peer (s).
Teaching has been an exciting experience for me these past twenty three years, such that it is full of worth while experience. My daily and constant interactions with students of various background and traits makes me feel fulfilled as a partner in their foundational build towards the future.
My background as a professional teacher and a minister of the gospel has greatly influence my physical and spiritual understanding of the children brought under my tutelage. As a teacher, I always motivate my students to think logically, to be problem solvers, to ask questions and to be advocate for themselves. I appraise students individually and set behavioural goals for each of them to achieve.
I see learning more as a process than a product. As a result, students are meant to feel that the process of learning is their own individual responsibility .A good sense of humour has helped me to create a relaxed but well focused atmosphere during my lessons and also to maintain a good rapport with my students. I act more as a surrogate parent than a teacher. I have good knowledge and experience in delivering IGCSE, Checkpoint, GCE (Cambridge International Examination), SAT P-SAT and SSCE both in English Language and Literature in English to mixed ability groups.
At present, I am the grade 9 Home Room Teacher, as well as teaching English as First Language and English Literature/Literature in English at The Centagon International School. I have found the responsibilities and challenges to be stimulating and sincerely rewarding. In the department, my colleagues and I make
Sure that all students are taught and assessed in a rigorous manner; allowing room for differentiation teaching. The lesson plans are prepared with clearly stated objectives. Also, I strive to contextualize my lessons to daily life situations. Group work amongst the students is highly encouraged. With the introduction of SMART BOARDS in the school, I have been able to build upon my own skills and deliver creative and interactive activities within my lessons. My role as facilitator has always focused on gaining the trust and respect of my students. This has always been actualized in an organized, friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
I am very meticulous and able to speak and write clearly. My integrity and discretion allows me to build and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. If employed, I intend to offer a wide range of teaching methodologies and I am confident this will translate into good result. I sincerely hope to be considered for a post of Teacher of English and would welcome the opportunity to expand upon any points raised in this letter.
