Release Management

Deployment of software releases using Jenkins and Serena automation tools. Setup automatic builds in Development/QA environments through Jenkins. Bottomline Technology, Inc. (September 2007 – January 2015)

Release Management and Application Engineering

Responsible for managing and upgrading hosted Linux and Windows server web based applications. Managing Tomcat, Apache, and Java configuration. Trouble shooting application errors. Assisting DBAs with database trouble shooting. Off hours on-call support. Replaced ad-hoc deployments by my team that were accomplished based on their experience, common knowledge, and rushed verbal instructions from the developers with documentation of what those procedures were. Took experience of deployments and conducted lessons-learned analyses and meetings. Contributed to policies and procedures based on what worked best and what was repeatable. After establishing and documenting these procedures wrote Korn shell, ANT, and Perl scripts to automate them. Wrote upgrade plans for each upgrade and then planned, scheduled, and held pre-upgrade meetings for managers, system administrators, and DBAs. Rewrote an internally used webpage with Ruby. Evaluated the usefulness of Maven and Puppet for deployments. Used Jenkins for certain deployments. Performed comparisons of the effectiveness of our existing production monitoring software and potential replacements with software such as Nagios and Tripwire. Used Confluence wiki software to document our procedures. Wrote many of the wiki articles there documenting those procedures. Provided assistance to coworkers to find relevant Confluence wiki articles whenever they needed any help doing so. Used Jira for issue tracking, project management, and also generating time-sheet and time management information.

Developed and supported several applications for Edgewater Technology, Inc.’s biggest customers. On the front end, developed code in the .NET framework using C# and ASP in Visual Studio. From the backend, worked directly on the Oracle Database, through SQL, creating tables, fulfilling “per customer” adhoc requests, and modifying data, and generating reports. Created new code in C++ and ProC programs running on UNIX. Adhered to the full System Life Cycle methodology, (everything from the initial development to minor enhancements/bug fixes) including unit, system, regression, and customer acceptance testing. Performed both white box testing on code written by myself and members of my team and black box testing on systems developed by other teams for various projects and different customers.
