To whom it may concern,

It is with great interest that I seek a position as instructor of English as a Second Language and I would like to inquire about positions available at your institution. My experience as an elementary school teacher has developed a passion and personal commitment to three things: fostering a positive learning environment for students with various backgrounds, maximizing individual student performance and developing student interest in technology. In my most recent position as a kindergarten to sixth grade teacher, I developed highly effective lesson plans, motivational exercises and effective assessments that promoted interest and knowledge retention. I have also been highly successful in have helping children with special needs succeed academically and socially in mainstream classrooms. As you can see from the enclosed resume, my bachelors' degree is from the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey Campus, same university where I returned to approve the necessary courses for the Teaching of English as a Second Language certificate. I obtained a Master's of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second Language at the Inter-American University Metro Campus in San Juan, Puerto Rico. At the moment I am pursuing a doctorate degree in Education with a concentration in Instructional Design and Distance Education. The coursework for this degree was concluded, leaving only dissertation work that will be a task continued throughout the academic year. During the academic year 2013-2014, I completed the courses required for a School Director and a Teaching Facilitator certificate at the Metropolitan University at Cupey, Puerto Rico. I worked for the Department of Education for 20 years with students from kindergarten to ninth grade. Besides, I have had the experience of working with adults, in night school, completing their sixth, seventh and eighth grade. During the academic years 2004 to 2006, I worked as an English Reading Laboratory Technician for Basic Level English of the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico Metropolitan Campus. Additionally, I taught the courses Basic English 3101 and Introduction to Language 3225 at the University of Puerto Rico Cayey Campus. I have excellent computer skills, with which I persuade students to use as well as any new technology with its variety of resources. Because of this expertise, I was a valuable resource to the school where I taught, selecting and recommending the use of computers, software and online resources for the computer lab. An educators' mission is to make pupils' learning enjoyable and exciting. I believe learning must be intellectually challenging, useful, and interesting. If pupils look forward to this kind of scenario, I have no doubt they will excel in everything they do. I am confident that my background in education and work in technology will be a valuable asset to your institution. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely,

Carmen Rosa Hernández
