OBJECTIVE

To obtain an interesting and challenging research position in an area utilizing most of my skills and talents: software engineering, algorithm development, computer vision, statistical analysis, economics. SOFTWARE SKILLS

High proficiency: C++, Object oriented design, CVS, linux, Excel Medium proficiency: Git, Python, R, bash, MATLAB

Rudimentary proficiency: Stata, SAS, valgrind, OpenCV, threading, Java, redis, ZooKeeper, SQL EXPERIENCE

Data Science Instructor, General Assembly

Atlanta, GA May 2016 Present

Help teach full time class that covers various data science topics: linear and logistic regression, k nearest neighbors, random forests, support vector machines, natural language processing, time series modelling. The main language utilized in the course is Python (and its data science packages, such as pandas, sklearn, statsmodels, matplotlib, etc.). Also, the course covers some SQL. Software Engineer, Cardlytics Inc.

Atlanta, GA December 2014 April 2016

Devised and implemented novel method to parse and understand strings that originally derived from point of sales systems. These systems were not standardized, and required human input, which made the resulting strings highly non uniform and typo ridden. Thus a non trivial artificial intelligence algorithm was required to correctly classify each “word” in each string. Devised a novel algorithm to solve the problem, based on a generic scene identification algorithm, “relaxation labeling.” Developed real time bidding platform in C++. Was the lead software engineer for integrating the platform with the BidSwitch exchange. Attained solid understanding of a complex system, the platform, which was based on the open source RTBKit. Attained intimate understanding of the code that funnelled in bid requests from the external exchange. Built new “exchange connector” and kept code in sync with exchange’s specification document. Built new filters that were highly optimized. Computer Vision Software Engineer, Beena Vision Systems Inc. Norcross, GA Fall 2014

Devised and implemented novel algorithm to identify train brakes in 2D grayscale images. Invented a novel data visualization for my algorithm’s data and built a GUI around it. The data visualization was vital to improving the algorithm. MATLAB was exclusively used to develop the algorithm and the data visualization + GUI.

Computer Vision Software Engineer, Motion Reality Inc. Marietta, GA 2010 2014

Designed and developed software for optical motion capture for an immersive real time virtual reality system utilized for tactical combat training. Was the responsible engineer for the tracking and identification phase of motion capture. Designed and implemented new techniques and improved current methods that greatly increased the reliability of the product. Accomplishments

● Independently researched, designed, and implemented new first frame identification algorithm, based on the generic labeling technique “relaxation”. Improved initial identification success rate from 50% to 98%.

● Designed and implemented new techniques to address 60Hz real time tracking issues, such as marker occlusion and noise markers. These new techniques enabled a critical customer requirement of unlimited duration captures for up to 13 participants.

● Quickly and satisfactorily addressed technical problems experienced by customers in the field. For example, the FBI complained about false positive pistol misfires. I investigated the issue and designed an algorithm to mitigate this problem to the customer’s explicit satisfaction.

● Worked with various mathematical techniques relevant to our motion capture product, including computer vision scene labeling techniques (e.g., relaxation, auction), multivariate optimization

(e.g., Fletcher Powell), point triangulation, m oving object forecasting, and linear regression.

● Explored various advanced mathematical techniques while researching potential solutions to our technical problems. These techniques included Kalman filter, hidden Markov models, self organizing maps, Levenberg Marquardt, simulated annealing, expectation maximization, k means clustering, principal components analysis, bootstrapping, Monte Carlo, evolutionary algorithms, ant colony optimization (and other "swarm intelligence" algorithms), neural nets, Hough transform, SVM.

Economic Forecasting Intern, Siemens AG

Alpharetta, GA Summer 2009

Assisted lead forecaster in the strategic planning department of a multi billion dollar division of Siemens. Used my knowledge of statistics and forecasting to clarify modeling issues with my manager. Developed software in Visual Basic for Applications to streamline data collection and analysis processes with Excel: automated numerous tedious tasks.

Graduate Teaching Assistant, Georgia Tech School of Economics Atlanta, GA 2008 2009

Taught quantitative economics recitation sessions: Economic forecasting, Econometrics, and Probability

& Statistics. Substituted in main lecture several times for professors. Received strong compliments from students regarding teaching abilities. Assisted professors occasionally in economic analysis projects using statistical analysis software Stata and Excel. Michael “Manny” Glover
