Galway University Hospitals, comprising of University Hospital Galway (UHG) and Merlin Park University Hospital (MPUH), provide a comprehensive range of services to emergency and elective patients on an inpatient, outpatient and day care basis across the two sites.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE (Cont’d):

GUH play a leadership role in acute service delivery providing regional services for a wide range of specialties and is also a designated supra regional center for cancer and cardiac services serving a catchment area in the region of one million people along the West from Donegal to Tipperary North.

UHG is a Model 4 hospital providing 24/7 acute surgery, acute medicine, and critical care.

GUH is recognized for Higher Medical Training in all specialties.

Nizwa general hospital, Nizwa, Oman

Nizwa Hospital is the largest hospital in the Dhakhiliya region and is about 140 km from Muscat. The hospital has 400 beds and offers the full range of medical services in the specialties and sub-specialties .The hospital is totally electronic paperless hospital and every single procedure even a cannula or intubation is documented electronically..

In the last Perinatal mortality meeting . The Hospital performs, on average 700 deliveries/month including normal vaginal, assisted and caesarean sections. The neonatal unit has 25 beds (not including jaundice beds) +- 70 admissions /month. The age of viability in our unit is 24 weeks or +- 500gms babies.

The paediatric ward consists of the following beds: 30 beds for Paediatric medical cases, 30 beds Paediatric surgical cases, 12 beds for high dependency unit, 4 beds PICU. An average admission in the Paediatric ward exceeds 800 per months.

Mainly I cover either NICU or PMW shifts.

Duty days include: Paediatric endocrine clinic Once/week (mainly I cover children with DM, Thyroid disorders, GH disorders) Other endocrine disorders to be followed in tertiary canter in the Royal hospital.

Post natal ward Once/week. Almost we check 30 newborn in this day for common newborn congenital abnormalities and Jaundice work up. If there Is any baby with cardiac murmur, I do initial murmur work up then I do initial echo screening for him by myself to exclude any duct dependant lesions or major anomalies then I refer him either to earliest follow up appointment or the tertiary hospital

Worked in an 6-bed ICU for medical and surgical paediatric patients, 20 beds for General paediatric medical ward and 5 NICU beds. OPD clinic on daily basis.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT :

I was nominated by my HOD and colleagues to present our paediatric department in the last grand hospital CME with a presentation, which was called (IDDM BEYOND HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT) . 11th Feb. 2015.

Last presentation done by me to my department was called( IDDM FROM PARENTS/PATIENTS’ PERSPECTIVE). 1st Feb. 2015.

Every month I teach Paediatric interns a new topic ( Last topics were Paediatric ECG, Management of electrolyte disturbances in paediatrics, management of acute severe asthma, anaphylaxis and Management of DKA).

Paediatric Lecturer for the MRCPCH for post graduate paediatricians, weekly, in Many hospital across Oman including the Royal hospital, Sultan Qaboos University hospital, Ibra hospital, Nizwa hospital).

One hospital assignment was requested from me by the hospital ED : (CONCISE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PATIENTS WITH IDDM) . March 2015. (AUDIT on these instructions still under review).
