about the types of turbines used in refineries and power generation plants.

PROJECTS

High Level Model Predictive Control April 2016

A High Level Model Predictive Control was performed on a medium-sized office building located in Southern

California where the opportunity for time-of-use (TOU) utility rate based cooling load shifting is possible.

Demand charges, TOU utility rates, building equipment efficiency, lighting density were varied to understand more

about pre cooling effects before regular office hours begin (8 AM-5PM).

Low Level Model Predictive Control April 2016

A Simulink model of the tankless water heater(TWH) was developed and the system was linearized before designing

a Model Predictive control. Control Horizon and constraints were established to the variables involved. The MPC

controller was then tuned and compared with PID controller using performance metrics such as IAE, ITAE and ISE.

Energy System Modelling March 2016

A thermal response of the low mass construction element vs High mass construction element was performed in

Salem and Omaha and a room was modelled in Simulink and the effective glazing fraction is found out for the cities.

A secondary plant for the room is then modelled in Simulink where the heating is provided by Radiator and cooling

is provided by Chilled ceilings. Different controllers (P, PI, PID) are then tested during the winter and summer

months for Salem and Omaha and the most effective one is chosen to maintain the setpoint inside the room.

Ziegler-Nichols method is then compared with the manual tuning to find if any deviations exist between both the

processes.

Air Distribution System Design for Library March 2016

Designed the Air Distribution system for a library using Trane TRACE 700.

Calculated design cooling loads for building zones using Trace 700.

Identified the locations of the packaged HVAC system and the VAV boxes.

Schematic layout of supply and return duct systems.

Calculated the pressure drop through the supply and return systems.

Sized and selected diffusers for each zone.

Water-Based Cooling System Design for Library April 2016

Designed a water-based cooling system for a library building and calculated the cooling loads and outdoor air

requirements for the building and sized and selected equipment like chilled beams etc.

A building is designed which is served by a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) which will supply the ventilation

air as per ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2007 and provide all the latent cooling.

A secondary water-based system composed of a chiller serving active chilled beams (ACBs), chilled sails (CSs), and

fan coil units (FCUs) will provide the remaining sensible cooling in the zones.

Design and Thermal Analysis of Building in Albuquerque Nov 2015

Designed a three storey building in Albuquerque using Sketchup and modelled, analyzed the different HVAC

systems, energy conservation measures to which would be the most energy efficient and cost effective in Open

studio 1.10.0. [Energy modelling in open studio]

The building was designed in Sketchup and the energy analysis was performed using Energy plus. Building mass,

Window to Wall ratio (WWR), lighting density, HVAC systems were then selected based on EUI values.

Small Commercial Building Thermal Analysis in Chicago Oct 2015

The analysis is performed using a spreadsheet analysis tool. The spreadsheet uses the Radiant Time Series method

of a simple rectangular building with an hourly time step. By employing a series of design modifications and

improvements, we achieved a significant decrease in cooling load from the baseline scenario. (Reduction of 40%)

Methods to utilize clipped energy from utility scale solar PV Plant March 2015

Efficient methods of integrating Battery system with PV power plant are investigated.

Performed case studies for four geographically different locations using SAM and Homer for DC coupled systems to

get economic evaluation.

Automation of MRAFF Process Jan- Apr 2013

Automated the process parameters (Pressure and Current) of MRAFF Nano-Finishing process to control the final

surface finish of the stainless steel work pieces. A PLC was incorporated to the previous setup for automating the

entire finishing process which leads to the improvement of the productivity as well as precise control of the process

towards optimization.

Design of flexible coupling Aug-Nov2012

Designed a flexible coupling which was used in automation of painting and cleaning applications by controlling the

motion of the spray gun using a wiper motor.

CONFERENCE AND SEMINARS

Represented CU Boulder at the AIA/ASHE PDC summit 2016 held in San Diego and competed in the Planning +

Design challenge hosted by AIA & AAH.

In the Planning + Design challenge we had to design a ambulatory surgery center in San Diego. I modelled, analyzed

the HVAC system and Energy conservation measures in order to make the building most energy efficient.
