I shipped, received, identified, bar coded, color coded & inspected 100% of all material we received to our yard, which was roughly 50 million pound of steel round bars ranging from half inch to thirty-two inches in diameter, and reported material conditions our corporate office in Chicago. Overall, I was responsible for inbound vessel's documents (i.e. manifests, brokers' orders, customs releases, steamship releases, and USDA releases) with the objective of having the vessel ready to discharge or load upon arriving to the terminal. Other responsibilities included shipping cargo discharged from the vessel and receiving cargo off trucks to be loaded onto a vessel in addition to keeping customers informed timely and accurately of their inventory in our yard. Occasionally made pick up arrangements be it via truck or rail.

Largely responsible for maintaining the ship's electrical minesweeping gear, and all logs which support activities with such gear. This included all mechanical and electrical maintenance and performance of all gear. Also responsible for the electrical safety program, revamping the way electrical safety was addressed and taught to all crewmembers in turn making each crewmember knowledgeable of the basic electrical safety hazards and rules.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
● Qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist as an E3, thus making me the most junior person at my command with this honorable achievement. To obtain this pin I had to complete many requirements including numerous off duty hours of studying and hands on training.
● I qualified in every area of my department and other departments, making me very versatile and valuable to my shipmates. (I.e. basic damage control, advanced firefighting, duty electrician, repair party electrician, electrical plant control operator, officer of the deck, lee helmsman, enlisted surface warfare specialist, etc.)
● As an E4 I received a perfect evaluation from the Captain of my command, meaning I greatly exceeded all standards in which I was evaluated. (I.e. professional knowledge, quality of work, military bearing, person job accomplishments, teamwork and leadership.) For this evaluated I was recommended for early promotion to E5.
