Human Resources and Occupational Health & Safety Manager

Company headquartered in Dallas, ten branches throughout state. Direct all HR functionalities. Advise, instruct and assist executives, regional managers and staff.

Provided recruiting services for 50+ positions per year, including initial screening (over 7,500 candidates in 2014), interviews and assistance to hiring managers.

Successfully implemented first HR web-based system with employee modules, developed a robust New Employee Orientation to introduce new employees to ROMCO’s core values, brand recognition/promotion and company culture.

Facilitated decrease in worker’s compensation premiums by maintaining program practices and instituting strict employer monitoring of all non-lost time claims. EMR reduced from 1.37 in 2004 to 0.82 for 2016. Results included decrease of approximately $350,000 in annual premiums from 2004 to present.

Initiated additional RFP s and aggressive negotiations for health insurance renewal, resulting in renewal increases trending far below average renewal rates for groups of similar size within the industry.

Reduced turnover by implementing structured recruiting process and enhanced background screening and verification. Realized 22% decrease in turnover ratio between 2004 and 2007, while experiencing 19% increase in employee headcount.

Successfully defended company from EEOC and legal charges and suits through investigation, documentation and research. Drafted response documentation, produced documents, served as designated corporate representative in depositions and worked efficiently and effectively with outside legal counsel, when necessary.

Chair of Acquisition Task Force. Assumed leadership role in transitional activities during the acquisition of a competitor. Having no prior acquisition experience, directed acquisition-related duties within an abbreviated time-frame, resulting in efficient merger of new employees into multiple branches (a 20% increase in headcount) and inclusion of all parts and equipment inventory, within a 30-day timeline.

Along with required responsibilities, expanded scope of position to include:

Health plan design, research, RFP, bid negotiations – which resulted in the transfer to a new group health plan in June 2003. The process, which began in early 2002, included in-depth claims analysis and utilization review, employee focus group facilitation and data analysis, monitoring direct contracting with local, regional and national provider networks and third-party administrators facilitated by third-party consultants, research and plan design for a self-funded health plan specifically geared towards the employee directives.

Redesign and implementation of a holistic wellness program. Multiple program research, benchmarking, surveying and bid negotiations, communication, facilitation of enrollment and education on the program processes – both reporting and receipt of awards for eligible participants.

Supervisory training of department directors and managers in the Leadership Quest program, designed to address employment, budget, benefits, communication and employee motivation. Curriculum design for Workers’ Compensation, Employee Benefits, Leaves of Absence, Overseas Employment and Benefits.

Member of the Employee Benefits Strategic Solutions team tasked with locating $500,000 in benefit savings for the 2004-2005 fiscal year. Proposals submitted including implementation of a PDL for retail and mail order drugs and plan design changes to the group retirement account projected over $573,000 in savings if implemented per committee design.
