DISYS Inc. April 2013 – December 2015

Strategic Communications Consultant at NC Dept. of Health and Human Services

Led the communications team assisting the NC Department of Health and Human Services with promoting the new Medicaid reimbursement system known as NCTracks to healthcare providers starting three months before it went live on July 1, 2013. Result: Expectations set for the difficulty of the transition. Processes developed for provider communications after go-live.

Led the NCTracks ICD-10 communications team to compel healthcare providers to prepare for this major transition in medical coding through multiple communications channels, including email, dynamic web site, an inbox for questions, a press conference and multiple presentations. Result: At go-live on October 1, 2015, the transition went almost flawlessly.

Industrial Extension Service, NC State University September 2001 – March 2013

Director of Strategic Communication

Led public relations campaigns in support of manufacturers, the primary IES customers. One example was the Manufacturing Makes It Real Network, a membership-based program with events held at manufacturing facilities. Result: A conservative annual value of $640,000 to the brand of NC State University.

Combined communications silos of marketing, public relations, creative services of writing and graphic design, the web and social media into one strategic communication team of 12 professionals in July 2011. Result: Better coordinated messaging.

Created and led the 1B4NC campaign, which stands for $1 billion for North Carolina. For four years every IES client that reported $1 million or more in value to the service provided by IES was presented with a 1B4NC award. The local press was invited. Result: Press coverage from across the state about how IES helped a local manufacturer.

Developed the first internal communications program for IES to better connect staff in the statewide organization. Result: Improved employee satisfaction levels in annual employee survey.

Arnold Worldwide, Washington, DC August 2000 – May 2001

Account Supervisor

Led the public relations team for client Stanley Furniture Inc., a Fortune Top 200 small business. Result: A three-month press campaign targeting furniture retailers that led to more than 30 articles in furniture industry publications.

Provided creative communications solutions and support on the account teams for Lufthansa Cargo, the Virginia Lottery, Choice Hotels and American University

Hospice & Palliative Care of Metropolitan Washington July 1999 – July 2000

Director of Communication

Led creation of corporate identity for newly merged organization by replacing the logos of the three former agencies with a single logo and graphic standard. Result: An integrated graphic standard for the new organization.

Established a corporate outreach program to acquaint employees of the area’s largest companies with end-of-life issues through direct mail, speakers bureau and meetings with human resources officers.

Brought local politicians, health care providers and a television station into a coalition to promote end-of-life issues. Result: A series of forums culminating with a locally produced live call-in program following a Bill Moyers special.
