Tasked with updating and maintaining a cucumber test suite. Configured multiple test servers that utilized the following technologies, Ubuntu 14.10 15.10, Ejabberd, Stunnel, Bind9, Ruby, Cucumber, and Jenkins. Created a ruby script that hit an API to retrieve and parse thousands of XML documents in minutes. Inserted parsed XML documents into a MySQL database.
Accomplishments
● Updated Cucumber Test suite from ruby 1.8.7 to 2.1.5 ahead of schedule.
Modified existing ruby 1.8.7 code to function running ruby 2.1.5
Deployed Jenkins build to simulated nightly runs on older code.
● Setup and maintained multiple test servers, which was crucial to spotting bugs before delivery.
Installed Ubuntu on multiple test servers.
Installed and configured Ejabberd, stunnel, and bind9 on test servers.
● Replaced an existing VBA script that pulled and parsed thousands of xml files, with a more efficient ruby script.
Created MySQL tables to store parsed data.
Created a reliable way to parse XML files into corresponding rows
■ Handled incomplete data and corrupted data.
Handled bad api calls
■ Made fewest calls possible, and called API again when necessary.
● Created and help maintained home test servers in order to gather results from different locations.
