PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

BBC WORLDWIDE AMERICAS, New York, NY 2000 - 2015

North American commercial subsidiary (revenues of $400 million) selling TV programming, licensing, digital advertising. Also the flagship channel "BBC America" jointly owned with AMC Network.

Senior Vice President, Informational Technology, Facilities & Regional Operations

Led team of 40 across North and South America. Accountable for technology, property and content operations, business continuity, infrastructure, data center, software solutions, integrated technology, property and facilities, post-production operations, and content distribution. Led IT project initiatives covering Sales and all back office areas including Finance, HR, Legal and Operations.

Moving the New York office required a new data center. Evaluated the cost of hosting remotely versus constructing - selected constructing. Designed floor space, HVAC, UPS, fire protection, access security, network, servers and storage equipment racks. Researched and selected monitoring software with temperature, water, humidity and power sensors: Saved $240k per year after a 3-year pay back.

Brought Ad Sales software in-house quadrupling revenue ($12m to $50m) within 3 years: The BBC made a strategic decision to implement their own suite. Built project plans and gained agreement from the business. Detailed and specified interfaces. Successfully implemented components for the 3 channel systems: Broadway (ad sales, scheduling & traffic), Zeus (program schedule & rights) and GripIt (management of secondary events).

Saved $20k eliminating network cables ($200 each) and phone handsets ($200 each) for 50 workstations: For those members of staff whose role was not dependent upon a phone, implemented Microsoft Lync - soft phone solution where the phone is a computer application used through a headset.

BBC WORLDWIDE AMERICAS (continued)

Saved $60k annually on printers, consumables and paper: To reduce space used for document storage, tasked each department to dispose or scan documents for electronic storage. The technology team designed file server folder structures for both access security and search functionality. Hard copy documents were reduced by 65%. Forty individual and team printers were replaced with 6 central printers, resulting in a 33% reduction in paper usage, printer consumables and maintenance costs.

Successfully rolled out SAP in the US providing London HQ a better view on the global business: SAP was implemented in London but the US was resistant preferring their solution; but, it gave London no oversight of global performance. Spent months working with the New York President, COO, CFO and Controllers to explain why SAP would be a better solution both locally and for HQ. SAP rollout for the US was agreed to and the implementation team configured SAP to accommodate the US business.

Saved $1m per year by negotiating the renewal for the uplink service with Discovery: A request for proposal was created and sent to likely vendors. Created a short list of three and visited the technical facilities of each. Proposed to the UK board renewing the contract with the incumbent and then negotiated significant annual savings.

Controlled travel costs by ensuring video conferencing was readily available and user-friendly: In planning the NY office move, specified that the new space included VC solutions. A control box was installed in each room/location which enabled management of the audio and video inputs and outputs from an iPad app with a simple user interface.

BBC negotiated a joint venture with AMC for the operation of the BBC America TV channel which generated a $200m payment to BBC along with 51% of future profits: Managed the implementation first transitioning staff of 80, data and equipment. Then hosted applications on a separate network to later function on the AMC network. Finally transitioned post production which was a staff of 25, editing equipment and programming content. All occurred on schedule and without issue.

Transferred access to the BBC America channel systems to AMC with no business disruption, maintaining information security and BBC data network separation: Designed a solution that satisfied both BBC and AMC hosting the systems on an isolated BBC NY network, servers and private storage partition. A point-to-point network connection was installed between AMC and the BBC NY office. The system migration was carried out over a weekend to avoid business disruption.

Promoted from Vice President, Information Technology & Facilities; Director of Information Technology; and Head of Information Technology.
