TECHNICAL SKILLS

Computer Expertise: MATLAB, R programming, LabVIEW, SolidWorks, HomER, Image J, Python, MS office, Software application testing, SPM, SPSS

Other: SOP and process flow documentation, Hypothesis testing, GMP, GLP, GCP, FDA and ISO Regulations, Cogstate

EXPERIENCE

Graduate Research Assistant, Medical Imaging Lab, UT Arlington Sep’ 2015-May 2016

Designed a hand-held probe for ISS imagent system (using SolidWorks) to measure hemodynamic changes, using NIRS, for diagnoses of peripheral vascular disease.

Performed frequency domain measurements on calf muscle and ankle and calculated absorption and scattering co-efficient using slope algorithms for the same.

Created cognitive test battery for PTSD in cogstate software and validated the same.

Maintained records of experimental data and test results and also performed calculations and plotted results in excel and Matlab

Involved in screening of healthy control subjects and conducted experiments on PTSD subjects and healthy controls, strictly following IRB protocols and all necessary safety standards.

Pre-processed raw fNIRS data using HoMER to remove noisy channels and motion artifacts and filter out hemodynamic fluctuations from the data and extracted and tabulated behavioral data, like reaction times, study times and accuracy, from PEBL software.

Evaluated the beneficial effects of transcranial laser stimulation (on prefrontal cortex) on the neurocognitive domains (attention and short-term memory) of the PTSD veterans by carrying out statistical analysis of behavioral scores and block averaged channel-wise hemodynamic responses within the subjects and also with healthy controls, using MATLAB, R and MS Excel.

Software Engineer, Accenture services Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, India Dec’ 2011 to Aug’ 2014

Worked in three different projects in the life science domain and assumed the roles of an application tester, support engineer and a team lead.

Collected and analyzed client’s requirements, created process flow documents, SOPs, prepared and executed test scripts and delivered projects within stipulated time.

Automated a process that greatly reduced the time and efforts, due to which the project was used as a prototype and was implemented globally.

Involved in knowledge transfer and mentoring and supporting new resources in the projects.

PROJECTS

Improved Oxygen Metabolism in Human Tissues in vivo by Low-level Laser Therapy

Conducted experiments to assess the effects of low-level laser therapy on human tissues in vivo with broadband near infrared spectroscopy and effectively concluded that the therapy increases concentration of oxygenated hemoglobin and cytochrome c oxidase as compared to placebo.

Image processing and 3D reconstruction of MRI Brain images

Displayed DICOM images of brain with tumor in montage view and also displayed 2D contour map of the same. Carried out segmentation by implementing algorithms like thresholding, windowing, region growing, erosion, dilation, opening and closing, in MATLAB, to effectively identify and segment a tumor in the brain. Performed 3D reconstruction of the brain highlighting the tumor.

Study on effect of cancer severity on lifespan of patients

Statistical data analysis on the data set containing an assay on cutaneous melanoma was performed. Hypotheses testing was performed in ‘R’ and F-tests and T-tests were performed on all combinations of data categories (disease severity levels) and concluded that average lifetime decreased with increased severity. The results of five number summary, boxplot, Q-Q plot and hypotheses tests were documented.

Frequency Domain hemodynamic measurements on calf muscle and ankle

Learnt the working principle of hemodynamic measurements using frequency domain ISS Imagent system and also learnt the software and modified the GUI to include only absorption and scattering coefficient calculated using AC phase for 730 and 850nm wavelengths. Constructed a hand-held probe, using SolidWorks, designed to measure hemodynamic changes particularly occurring in calf muscle and ankle on healthy adults to verify and validate it’s usage in non-invasive diagnoses of peripheral vascular disease.

Biomedical optics lab projects using LabVIEW

Used instrumentation (like lasers and CCD camera) associated with optical setup for absorption, scattering, polarimetry and Interferometry. Used LABVIEW and MATLAB for edge detection and spectrometry analysis.

Measurement of Hemodynamics related to neural activity in the brain using FMRI for Auditory stimuli

Processed the fMRI data for an odd-ball detection task for auditory stimulus to delineate the activated regions in the brain and to showcase the region of activation of the same and also encumber the reaction timings of the response using SPM 8.

HONORS AND ACTIVITIES

Won ‘Star of the Month’ award twice for leading a team for a project that was implemented globally with zero escalations.

Felicitated with a rank certificate from the institution for topping the biomedical engineering branch for the batch of 2007-2011 at undergraduate level.

Volunteered in national workshop for biomedical faculty across India.
