Duties and Responsibilities:

• Preparation of mobile table for patients in bed

• Safe positioning of patients to receive meals in bed or on a chair

• Assist with cutting up food and opening packages

• Feeding patients who are unable to do so for themselves under the direction of the RN

• Assist patient with showering, bathing and bed washes

• Assist patient with oral hygiene, brushing teeth, and cleaning of dentures

• Assist with dressing and grooming of patients

• Observation of basic skin integrity and reporting skin condition to the RN

• Facial shaves of male patients (exclusion: all pre-operative shaving)

• Hair care (exclusion: no prescribed treatments are to be used by the AIN)

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assigned as a charge nurse in the unit – sorts out bed for admissions, must know all patient’s condition in the unit and reports to the Head Nurse.

• Obtains accurate and concise nursing history.

• Identifies patient problems, symptoms and behavioural changes and document it appropriately.

• Admits and discharges patients.

• Assists physician in examining patients.

• Carries out doctor’s order intelligently.

• Assists the doctor on non-invasive and invasive procedures like lumbar puncture, thoracostomy tube insertion, cut-down intravenous cannulation and intrathecal chemotherapy, colostomy irrigation

• Close observation of patients who are consciously sedated from certain procedure.

• Intravenous fluid monitoring.

• Intake and output monitoring.

• Perform dressing to all kinds of wounds in aseptic technique as per hospital policy.

• Do nasogastric tube feeding and gastric lavage.

• Cannulate patients to start IV fluids or IV medications prescribed by the physician.

• Do cast care – check CMS ( Circulation, Movement and Sensation)

• Do TPN administration.

• Administers medications ordered by the physician, observe and record any untoward manifested by the patients and reports immediately to the physician.

• Administers all kinds of blood products, observe patients pre, during and post-transfusion for any reaction and inform the doctor immediately.

• Receives post-op patients fro recovery room, observe for airway and hemodynamic condition

• Do gluco check to diabetic patients or with endocrine disorder.
