Career Summary
My background includes electronic repair and calibration. I served 12 years as an Aviation Electronics Technician I Level in the U.S. Navy and earned the rank of AT1 (E-6). While I served in the military I have had the opportunity to lead and mentor my fellow sailors. I gained customer service skills and experience with Lean techniques. I work well with others and can motivate co-workers.
I am capable of performing troubleshooting and repair of electronic equipment to component level. I can read wiring diagrams and schematic drawings along with adjusting or replacing defective or improperly functioning circuitry. I can do this in accordance to engineering instructions and technical manuals using hand or power tools. I can identify and resolve equipment malfunctions and troubleshoot and repair electronic and physical/dimensional devices and test electronics units using standard test equipment. I have experience in the Navy with Precision Measuring Equipment (PME), METCAL, TMDE, and the Naval Aviation maintenance Program (NAMP).
Experience
Technician - As an avionics calibration technician I have 12 years experience troubleshooting and repairing electronic and physical dimensional devices. I have had to document test processes, utilize test equipment for troubleshooting and repair, create purchase order requests (POR) for components, adhere to strict QA controls, follow detailed instructions, work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices, train and mentor other technicians and follow ESD protocol.
Technical Expertise - I have experience using, calibrating, and repairing precision test and measuring devices and test equipment such as: Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, DMM’s, Meters, Directional Couplers, Power Meters, Power Sensors, Torque Instruments, Pressure Instruments, Micrometers, RF, IFF, Signal Generators, RADAR Test Benches, Attenuators, Frequency Counters, Power Supplies, VSWR, Synchros, Vibration, GPETE, Temperature Instruments, Panel Meters, Weights/Scales, Jet Engine Test Instrumentation (JETI) and others.
Manager - I managed the Southwest Regional Calibration Center’s (SWRCC) warehouse, processing over 4,500 assets for 156 different customers, providing inducting/ receiving, tracking, shipping and out processing for each asset with zero lost items along with establishing procedures and a training schedule which allowed the reduction of warehouse personal from 3 workers to 2. I created an electronic data base to track the work load. Furthermore I co-chaired a multicultural committee for promoting diversity at SWRMC which held a Multicultural Conference in 2008. I established fundraisers and events which funded this conference.
Supervisor – From 2003-2006 I administered and inventory of over 10,000 calibration assets and supervised 8 technicians on board U.S.S. Nimitz resulting in a maintenance back log reduction by 85% and the ship’s readiness rate was increased to 95%. I also lead two teams in an audit of 48 work centers which identified 127 discrepancies enabling the lab to pass its 2006 Maintenance Program Assist inspection. Additionally I was in charge of repair operations for the lab, I ordered, tracked and implemented the repair of parts and assets for 120 test sets and generated a savings of over $200,000.00 in repair parts.
As the night shift supervisor, from 2008-2009, at the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC), I managed 1 production supervisor, 9 technicians, and the QA program for the night shift. I mentored 8 junior sailors in by helping them to set goals and helping them in their college degree path. I also was part of 2 Lean events for 2 work centers that improved performance and productivity. Shop lay out was reconfigured to maximize workflow, tools and parts where redistributed to point of use and lab equipment was repositioned to accommodate faster turnaround time in maintenance and repair actions.
Safety Inspector – From 2004-2006 I was a safety inspector on board the U.S.S. Nimitz ensuring compliance to safety regulations for 13 work centers, I held monthly safety meetings and training sessions where I trained 10 additional safety technicians. I had zero major inspection discrepancies and no major accidents occurred. My responsibilities where to coordinate the implementation of the Navy Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Program, Traffic Safety Program, and Recreational and Off-Duty Safety (RODS) Program with the Safety Officer. I also had to identify hazards, unsafe work practices, and health hazardous conditions.
Quality Assurance - I held a position as a QA inspector while I served on board the U.S.S. Nimitz and at the Southwest Regional Calibration center, I verified the quality of outgoing calibrated assets and the adherence to established procedures for the Navy Metcal program, I also provided training and support to technicians ensuring the highest quality product was delivered to our customers. Additionally at the Southwest Regional Calibration Center I implemented a cross-training program for 7 new technicians and was part of a team to re-write the labs quality manual.
Skilled- I am skilled in the following areas: Customer Service, Strategic Planning, Time Management, Microsoft Office, Metrology/Calibration (Electronic & Dimensional), Avionics, Electronics Repair and Troubleshooting, Team Building, Leadership, Management, Public Speaking, Maintenance & Repair, AC/DC theory and Lean Techniques.
I have had the following NEC's: 6673 - Calibration Technician, 6718 - Advanced Calibration Technician, and 9571 - Safety Technician
