Relevant Work History:
Ace Cash Express
Director of Data Services (BI/Data Architect) July 2013 - Present
Senior Manager of Business Intelligence July 2012 – June 2013
As Senior Manager of BI and Director of Data Services I took over Enterprise Business Intelligence to design and develop end-to-end architecture for analytical support, from ELT to reporting to ensure governance, performance, and scalability. Also worked across the organization to gather requirements, prioritize tasks, and conform data definitions.
Participated in RFP process for new Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence tools and ended up purchasing IBM’s Netezza Data Warehouse Appliance and Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint 2010 for Business Intelligence and working with consultants for the installation and setup.
Migrated ETL (Extract, Transform, & Load) to ELT (Extract, Load, & Transform) to take advantage of Netezza’s MPP architecture and speed and standardized ELT architecture to capture auditing information and produce robust error and performance reporting.
Designed and developed Kimball dimensional model to incorporate loan performance, web analytics, digital marketing, fraud, customer verification, underwriting, risk, originations, collections, and call center operations data.
Developed agile architecture process which included working with business owners to define metrics and attributes, utilize PowerPivot for prototyping data warehouse design and provide short term, quick win, reporting while finalizing design and integrating with existing data marts.
Developed SSRS metadata driven solution with data driven subscriptions and had SSIS kick off the SSRS reports once the ETL loads were done to solve issues of blank reports going out if no data was available or load errors occurred.
Provided business users with a managed self-service environment and analytics repository using PowerPivot, Power View and SharePoint. A one-stop-shop for all analytics and reporting.
Developed executive KPI dashboards and scorecards that were used to track performance for strategic goals.
Built near real-time alerting based on thresholds and run rates using SSRS for fraud detection and operational support.
Provided training to analysts and power users on data infrastructure, query optimization, and the reporting tools to ensure everyone was getting the most out of our solution and as effective as possible.
Worked with executive level management to prioritize workload in weekly prioritization meetings.
Ace Cash Express May 2011 – June 2012
Manager of Business Intelligence
Assisted in hiring a team of analysts to take over web and business analytics functions as I hired a team of BI Developers to build out departmental Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse solution which provided report automation and self-service data discovery, allowing the business to analyze at the speed of thought.
Built out a data infrastructure that combined, heavily transformed, and conformed disparate data which increased reporting and analytics efficiency by 500%.
Worked with consultants to set up Omniture (now Adobe) Site Catalyst.
Developed SSRS reporting for business monitoring and began transitioning to PowerPivot for more analytical, self-service, reporting. For the first time at Ace users could drag and drop additional metrics and attributes into reports rather than having to put in a development request to have them added.
Created SSIS ETL packages to import and transform transactional data from OLTP source systems to SQL Server 2008R2 and optimized tables using indexing.
Assimilated newly acquired Canadian company data into the reporting infrastructure.
Worked with outside consultants on design and implementation of digital marketing data mart which integrated data from Google AdWords, Microsoft AdCenter, Google Analytics, Site Catalyst, Exact Target (email provider), and several lead providers and affiliates.
Helped to hire and mentor a team of analysts and BI developers.
Demonstrated and evangelized increased speed of analysis and business value through data based decision making to leaders outside of Ecommerce.
Ace Cash Express April 2010 – May 2011
Business Intelligence/Web Analyst
As part of Ace’s new Ecommerce department I was brought on as a Business/Web Analyst which I fulfilled by setting up web analytics on the site and analyzing customer behavior and loan performance. Since Ace had no Business Intelligence or Data Warehouse capabilities I quickly began building out a proof of concept to the show the value.
Set up Google Analytics with custom event tracking on website to gain insight into online customer behavior and conversion.
Analyzed customer borrowing behavior to find key times for product cross sell and set up marketing segmentation lists to improve retention.
Designed and built a Channel Economic reporting to monitor customer acquisition costs and profitability by channel.
Built ETL packages using SSIS to bring data from 3rd party lending platform, Google Analytics, and OLTP systems into SQL Server 2008R2.
Worked with IT and business stakeholders to determine key performance metric definitions.
Built SSRS reports to monitor and analyze things like vintage based loan funnels (visits to payoff), operations call center efficiency, and debit card lifecycle.
Evangelized the need for a Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence infrastructure and showed ROI through proof of concept development.
Match.com January 2008 – March 2010
Business Intelligence/Web Analyst
Performed a hybrid role for the Asia/Pacific division between Web Analyst and BI Developer in which I analyzed the web site for customer behavior, performed A/B testing to increase conversion, and built a robust Business Intelligence infrastructure with automated and self-service reporting.
Created Kimball star schema in SQL Server 2005 as well as multi-dimensional cubes using SSAS to combine web analytics, digital marketing, and customer behavior data.
Created automated reporting using SSRS as well as self-service reporting and data discovery capabilities using ProClarity (now PerformancePoint).
Developed a real-time custom operational reporting tool using C# and ADO.NET for developers to see immediate impact of new site changes to operational and customer conversion metrics.
Worked closely with development and business teams to ensure appropriate data was being captured to measure website changes and tests.
Set up Google Analytics on site for additional web analytics capabilities.
Provided in depth analysis of registration and subscription paths and performed site optimization through A/B testing which resulted in a 34% increase in registrations, a 24% increase in the paid member portfolio, a 58% increase in free trial conversions, and an 18% increase in total subscriptions.
RadioShack June 2006 – January 2008
Business Intelligence/Web Analyst
As a member of the Web Operations team I played a hybrid role between analyst and BI Developer in which I created a data repository, automated reporting, and analyzed RadioShack’s website to understand customer behavior as well as backend operational processes to optimize online fulfillment.
Created SQL DTS (now SSIS) packages to automate import of 3rd party data and combine with transactional data into a SQL 2000 data repository.
Automated sales, digital marketing, and website reporting using SSRS and Omniture (now Adobe) Site Catalyst and provided training on web analytics tools.
Performed web analytics on website to optimize customer experience. Optimized checkout process which decreased fall-out by 10%, a $2.25 million a year improvement.
Analyzed backend fulfillment and operational processes and produced a forecast of high volume products for the buyers which decreased out of stock cancellations by 58% and increased sales by $250,000 a year.
