Paint/Body Shop Manager

Managed Paint and Body shops with 30 employees. This consisted of a full day shift, and light second and week end shifts. Responsible for receiving built cabs and bodies from fabrication shop and performing all metal repair, prime application, sanding, base/clear application, final sand and buff, and paint repairs from chips and scratches in the assembly shop. When I took over, the paint/body shop was a major bottle neck for the entire plant and had poor quality. There was also a significant amount of work outsourced to a local body shop due to the backlog of work.

Accomplishments:

1.Improved processes and created written work instructions with visual aids.

2.Obtained newer equipment to improve paint application processes and appearance.

3.Replaced poor performing suppliers.

4.Improved paint/body to the point where no work was outsourced and the paint/body shop was starved for work from the fab shop and blocked off to assembly. Their quality was also the best in the plant.

2007 to 2009

Global manufacturer of ceramic fiber for high heat insulation with annual sales of $60 million.

Shift Manager

Managed the entire plant with four furnaces and 36 employees during 4PM to 4AM night shift. Responsible for all phases of business including fiber production, quality lab, special products, shipping, warehousing and maintenance. Report to Plant Manager.

Accomplishments:

1Implemented safety program that accomplished a fifty percent reduction in recordable accidents by training employees to better recognize and report unsafe conditions, by increasing involvement in safety audits, and by rewarding employees when observed exercising good work habits.

AM GENERAL LLC, Mishawaka IN

2001 to 2007

Produces the High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle as the mainstay truck of the US military and currently supplies GM with the Hummer H2 as the civilian version of the HMMWV.

Managed rotating shift moving between the chassis line, trim line, door line, final line, and reprocess utilizing lean manufacturing with eight supervisors and 60 union employees.
