PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
ABB Inc., Pinetops, NC 2014 – present
Mechanical Engineer
Manage product design/development for instrument transformers.
Optimize Analyze product design for improvements, verification and validation using SolidWorks models, Simulation, Flow, tolerance stack calculations and defining tests for prototype designs
Led design and develop product improvement project which resulted in new design that has potential to reduce scrap by 75% ($100k per year savings). Manage cross- disciplinary team, assign tasks, identified scope, established design requirements & goals, determined test methods & parameters, built & tested prototypes for design verification, release into production.
Design new and modify existing product and related tooling – identify critical dimensions, utilize GD&T and simulation to improve reliability & repeatability of function design, for verification & validation via simulation (FEA, flow), GD&T to increase first pass yield.
Create and maintain related product documentation including product drawings and 3D models, BoMs, Work Instructions, specs.
Design mold tooling for open air and vacuum pack casting.
Update product data in MRP system (SAP) such has material masters, BoMs, technical documents and ECMs (change masters).
Implement PDM vaulting system (PDM Workgroups) and method of use for controlled process of storage and access of engineering documents and files. Perhacs 2
Veeco Instruments, Fort Collins, CO 2011 – 2014
Mechanical Engineer
Designed sub-systems and sub-assemblies for high pressure vacuum chambers (Ion Beam Deposition systems) as process equipment for thin film applications. Managed EC process for the entire site.
Created and maintained product drawings and models, technical documents, BoMs and spec sheets. Modified existing designs for functional improvements, cost savings and/or production process improvements.
Generated SolidWorks models and corresponding engineering drawings of large assemblies, sub-assemblies and components. Designed routing system for water vapor lines of new control panel required for release of new custom system.
Implemented new PLM system into SAP for site, including creating process & procedures and then training Engineering Dept. Transfer & integration consisted of over 4,000 technical documents.
Integrated EC process into SAP (MRP), created the related EC process for the site within corporate guides, trained users on process and maintained the system.
Led project team to reduced backlog of over 200 outstanding ECs to 0 in 6 months
(2 months ahead of schedule)
Reviewed all EC’s for appropriate document, evaluated all EC’s to ensure adequate engineering verification & validation was completed for all design and/or process changes.
Managed EC process for entire site by directing and coordinating the activities of 4 drafters, 2 designers, 2 data entry techs & 2 design engineers to accurately execute timely completion and implementation of ECs. Maintained average amount of 6-8 active ECs with average completion rate of 15-20 days from ECR to release to floor
(max. open duration of 30 days). Improvement of 60% of in-process ECs and 50% in completion rate from previous system.
Yazaki N.A., Y-connect Operations, Middletown, PA 2003 –2009 Lead Product Engineer
Maintained primary product line and Managed fiber optic product development projects from concept to completion which ranged anywhere from 4-8 development projects simultaneously with typical project tooling costs from $20,000 to over $100,000.
Designed and modified plastic injected product as solutions to meet customer’s requirements and develop new products for general market release. Reviewed product design/drawings for manufacturability, specified components and possible equivalents for product/process improvements.
Produced models & drawings in SolidWorks to develop designs for analysis of product form, fit, function and tolerance stacking. Created product drawings/specs, BoM’s, EC Requests, Inspection Plans, FASR’s, process procedures and other supporting technical documentation.
Interfaced on daily basis with customers, manufacturing, vendors, and colleagues to provide technical assistance and direction.
Directed designers and drafters on various engineering projects. Perhacs 3
FCI Electronics, Valley Green, PA 2000 – 2002
Product Engineer
Supervised design control of 2mm header backpanel connectors used in telecommunication industries.
Performed troubleshooting and failure mode analysis to assess product functionality, as well as, provide risk assessments & root cause evaluations.
Managed development projects involving product design, obtained tooling quotes, developed and maintained timelines and other supporting documents.
Designed new products and developed corresponding technical documentation. Osram Sylvania, Inc., York, PA 1997 – 2000
Process/Project Engineer
Developed process improvements in the manufacturing of components for the lighting industry, including aluminum, steel and brass deep draw metal stamping, transport systems.
Led of quality improvement team to successful execution of various process improvements, which combined efforts resulted in an annual $100,000 savings. BICC Cables, York, PA 1995 – 1997
Process Engineer
Responsible for initiating process improvements in the manufacturing of electrical wire and cable.
