I have served as a mainframe developer, distributed developer, software librarian, and production control monitor. My primary areas of interest is in technical or document writing, or SCM management. I have written application documentation and user instructions, I was involved with was the construction of an integrated On-line Help File with a Visual Basic application back in 1993, and I tried to start my own business in the autumn of 1994 constructing On-Line Help Files for the many Visual Basic and PowerBuilder shops in Central Iowa. However, Adobe (née Blue Sky) RoboHelp appeared on the computer store shelves at that time, automating the many manual steps I had learned to provide, and putting me out of business. That, too, was a learning experience.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
10/1999 to 02/2016
John Deere Financial, Inc.
Johnston, Iowa
Information Technology Analyst II
Production Control Support. I served as a Production Control Analyst, responsible for the deployment of Mainframe software (such as COBOL programs and JCL skeletons) under SCM management by CA Panvalet, as well as Informatica PowerCenter applications, across multiple test environments into the production environment upon request. I also wrote and maintained CA ESP scripts for job scheduling, and created flowcharts of the scripts using Microsoft Visio.
Wise Solutions Installation Scripts. Wise scripts were used as wrappers for all shrink-wrapped and home-grown applications, and had to meet corporate standards for gathering statistics and Registry processing. I focused primarily upon assisting Desktop Analysts with script-related issues, whether writing new scripts, updating existing scripts, or resolving problems with the deployment of scripts via SMS.
StartTeam Coordinator. PVCS was eventually replaced with Borland StarTeam, and all SCM activities for the distributed environment were managed from the corporate office in Moline, IL (to reflect the centralized structure used for Mainframe SCM. Administrative assistant responsibilities were divided among local specialists, with final authority and expertise provided by the central office.
PVCS Administrator. Serena (née Merant née Intersolv) PVCS Version Manager is a Source Code Management (SCM) system with which organizes, manages and protects software assets. I managed the archiving of distributed computer source code for Microsoft Visual Basic and IBM Websphere Java, files, and related application documentation. I was responsible for the scheduling and implementation of vendor upgrades, and served as the coordinator between the software developers and casual users with the vendor's technical support office. I also applied and enforced corporate security standards for distributed Source Code Management (SCM) products.
05/1996 to 10/1999
McGladrey & Pullen, LLP
Des Moines, Iowa
Consultant
Assigned to the team building a Test Center Management System at a major standardized testing service. The system tracked information for more than 12,000 test centers across the country, interfaced with the client's registration system to provide real-time monitoring of test center information, distributed materials, processed payments and updated the financial system. The application was written using Oracle's Developer/2000 client/server toolset and database.
Constructed and maintained the LAN-to-PC based version control environment for the above Test Center Management System, reducing the confusion and security problems inherent when multiple developers work on the same programs, as well as streamlining the testing and distribution of successive releases of the application as part of the interactive development methodology.
I wrote Korn Shell scripts for a client's UNIX environment, to implement a user-friendly version control system utilizing the native SCCS utility. As a mirror of that project, I also implemented the Serena PVCS interface that was shipped with the Oracle Developer/2000 product. The goal was to allow the developers to utilize the PVCS version control product from within the development tools, eliminating a step that was proved time-consuming (although absolutely essential). In that scenario, only the Administrator needed to bother with accessing PVCS.

In particular, I was solely responsible for the design, construction, and implementation of a 200,000 character On-line Help File. I was also heavily involved with the connectivity portion of the software, using DDE calls to ProComm for Windows to execute a file transfer to a UNIX server. I also acquired a familiarity with Windows API calls.

Performed product evaluations for On-line Help File creation software, as well as Computer-Based Training software. Introduced to WinRunner Windows quality assurance and testing tool, with the intention of applying this tool to team development environment.
