EXPERIENCE
SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY Syracuse NY, USA
Research Assistant: Design and Optimization of a Composite Morphing Wing January 2016-May 2016
Project objective was to redesign an aluminum wing (modeled on Bombardier CRJ-900) with lighter composite materials so that its shape may be altered during flight to improve aerodynamic performance and reduce fuel burn
Altair HyperMesh was used for FEA and a 3-step optimization process employed to minimize composite skin mass
A to-scale, test-bed model of the wing was manufactured and evaluated for compliance with simulation results in terms of overall deformation of the wing skin
The final design achieved 56% improvement in aerodynamic performance with a 19% reduction in total weight
TALAL ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS Rawalpindi, Pakistan
Design Engineer: Exhaust System of a 4-stroke CNG Auto Rickshaw August 2013-October 2013
Utilizing GD&T principles, generated assembly drawings of the muffler and exhaust pipe in SolidWorks
Saved $5k in manufacturing costs by employing minimalistic design and eliminating unnecessary steps
Generated and kept track of BoMs using Microsoft Excel
Design Engineer: Shipping Container Design for Hyundai Shehzore Micro Van October 2013-December 2013
Used SolidWorks to modify the existing design to incorporate refrigeration units in a new line of dairy delivery vans
Conducted FEA of the new design in ANSYS to ensure durability of the container remained uncompromised
Oversaw various manufacturing operations (corrugation, welding, riveting etc.) on the factory floor
Generated and kept track of BoMs using Microsoft Excel
ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION LAB, COLLEGE OF E&ME, NUST Islamabad, Pakistan
CAE Engineer: Design and CFD Analysis of a Flapping-Wing UAV October 2012-June 2013
Designed a single d.o.f. flapping mechanism UAV in SolidWorks for use in reconnaissance and rescue missions
Used XFLR5 for airfoil selection and ANSYS Fluent for 2D CFD analysis of the high-lift, low-Re airfoil
Learnt CNC programming to machine wing framework; i.e., airfoil, linkages and gears out of carbon fiber sheets
Investigated various pitch angles (2-26deg) and flapping motions on a test-bed to determine airworthiness of the concept
Secured 2nd place in university-wide senior design project competition, 2013
FARABI PETROCHEMICALS Jubail, Saudi Arabia
Co-Op Trainee: Maintenance and Reliability July 2011-August 2011
Orientation with petrochemical plant infrastructure, focused on preventive and reliability-centered maintenance
Trained on Emerson and Centum CS3000 DCS systems and contributed in laying out plans for a new rack-room
Learnt ladder logic and programmed PLCs to regulate flow control valves on freshly installed boilers
Delivered presentations to new interns at the end of my training on TRACCESS CI and PRIMEDIA softwares and SMPs

CFD Analysis of NACA 63-3-418 Airfoil March 2015-April 2015
The project was undertaken to validate the accuracy of the newly-acquired Star-CCM+ software by calculating coefficients of lift and drag of the airfoil and comparing them with experimental results
The effects of using different mesh types (C-type, O-type etc.) and turbulence models (Spalart-Allmaras, k-ε and k-ω) were studied vis-à-vis convergence rates and accuracy
Results achieved, on average, more than 90% conformity for 7 different angles-of-attack between -15 and 25deg
CFD Design Evaluation of Audi RS8 Race-Prepped Model April 2015-May 2015
Evaluated modifications to the engine’s air-induction system, the availability of cooling air for rear brakes and radiator systems, and the contribution to drag reduction by the rear wing as a function of its profile and position
Car modeled in CATIA V5 and 3D CFD analysis conducted using Star-CCM+ to calculate mass flow rate through the ducts, drag coefficient of the spoiler and aerodynamic contribution to the weight distribution between front and rear wheels at different driving speeds
Improved aerodynamic performance by suggesting design alterations to the rear wing and intercooler ducts
Solar Air-Conditioning System in Mosques using Minaret as a Thermal Chimney February 2015-May 2015
Project objective was to improve indoor thermal comfort in a mosque by employing principles of natural ventilation
Modifications were made to the minaret to incorporate glass slabs with varying tilt angles and black absorbers
Climate data for Riyadh, SA was imported and buoyant model in CHAMPS was used to model temperature variations
Relative humidity within the building was reduced by almost 30%
