Profile
As a senior instructional designer and trainer, I have extensive experience developing and delivering classroom, e-learning and simulation based training, from needs assessment to final evaluation. I have experience with small organizations, military, government departments and international firms, performing needs analysis, task analysis, course and curriculum development, change management, communication, training delivery (classroom training, coaching and e-learning), evaluation, and solution costing. Much of my work was created for multilingual audiences necessitating simple instructions and graphical representations wherever possible. As an e-learning developer, I have also prepared scripts, outlines and storyboards as well as creating and editing complex simulations on numerous applications.

Instructional Designer – TD Assurance, May 2015 to October, 2015 (Montreal)
Developed a needs analysis for insurance underwriters and created training material for insurance appraisers as part of the internal training academy. Key challenge: tracking down subject matter specialists located in multiple offices.
Documentation and training lead - Remington Arms, June 2014 to October 2014 (Huntsville, AL)
Plan for and create SAP documentation and training for Remington’s new manufacturing facility using uPerform. Key challenges: combining disparate material from diverse plants to create standardized formats and introducing software skills to people with minimum computer experience.
On-site Support– US Army, June 2012 to January 2013 (Kwajalein Atoll and Afghanistan)
Support go-live activities around the new General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS). Duties include assisting end users resolve transaction errors and other system-related problems. Key challenge: understanding policy issues and helping end users identify their place in the process flow.
Trainer – US Army, May 2010 to June 2012 (various locations)
Deliver SAP classroom training to key Army personnel for the new General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS). Topics include Real Property, Equipment and Assets, Plant Maintenance and Project Systems. Key challenge: creating a workshop environment that encourages exploratory learning.
Training Consultant – Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (now Pfizer), March 2007 to December 2008 (Pennsylvania)
Supporting Wyeth’s formalized labeling and art work flow with Documentum and SAP. Duties include task analysis, target audience analysis, training strategy, curriculum and course development (including simulations) and classroom delivery. Key challenge: explaining the various Documentum customizations.

Training Developer – Celestica, October 2006 to December 2006 (Toronto)
Worked with Celestica business analysts to develop manufacturing-related training courses for their international SAP implementation. Tasks included developing course materials, simulations and job aids.
e-Learning Developer – Rockwell Automation, June 2006 to October 2006 (Milwaukee)
Created e-learning courses for Rockwell’s SAP implementation. Courses included Business Warehouse, Time Entry, and Product Lifecycle Management. Developed simulations to support the course material. Worked closely with the client and subject matter specialists to tailor the courses to the end users.
Training Team Lead – Cameco Corp., August 2005 to May 2006 (Saskatoon)
Provided technical and developmental leadership, guidance and support to a large end user training team consisting of Canadian, US, and European RWD training consultants as well as contract development resources. Responsible for tracking the project and deliverables. Developed course materials for SAP Basic Navigation and several HR courses as well as simulations and extensive job aids.

Developed and analyzed a survey measuring the impact of a community intervention group targeted toward parent support networks. Made recommendations for improving the program.

Team Leader - Schlumberger, June 2001 to August 2001 (Texas)
Led the training team in the design and development of tutorials for an SAP HR version migration. The project required distant learning techniques so computer based training applications were used for delivery. Responsible for a one-day train-the-trainer workshop for Schlumberger trainers. Key challenge: making stand-alone presentations engaging.

Designed and developed tutorials for a PeopleSoft HR version migration. Duties also included the development of computer based training tutorials using iTutor and PowerPoint. Key challenge: coaching client's computer-shy training managers.

Working with a team of instructional designers and software developers, designed training materials for a region-wide SAP implementation (HR, FI/CO, MM and PM). In addition to a classroom-based curriculum, the project made extensive use of computer based training applications.
Instructional Designer, Trainer - Canadian Mortgages and Housing Corporation, October 2000 to December 2000
Performed needs and task analysis on existing warehouse management system. Created and delivered classroom training session to introduce a new system to warehouse employees (SAP). Key challenge: overcoming employees' distrust for the new system and procedures.
Performance Consultant - Imperial Tobacco, September 2000 to October 2000
Worked with senior management to develop a business case for the implementation of a global training approach using technology-based training. Emphasis was on providing both technical training (SAP, Siebel and MS Office) and soft skills (i.e., sales). Key challenge: getting buy-in from managers.
Performance Consultant - SouthWestern Bell, July 2000 to August 2000
Performed a Return On Investment analysis designed to determine the most appropriate tools and approaches for the implementation of a global training project for HR training. The client wanted to examine the possibility of mixing technology-based training with instructor-led training. The project included the development of sample courses, using SAP's iTutor and On-Demand. Key challenge: introducing the advantages of mixed technology based training. (USA)
Performance Consultant, ARINSO (corporate internal), June 2000 to October 2004
Performed needs analysis, designed and developed several web-based tutorials introducing internal users to new software applications (On-Demand, iTutor, RapidBuilder, etc.). Created a streamlined expense reporting system for efficient data recording. Developed a introductory knowledge management system designed to introduce employees to each others' skill sets and experience.
Instructional Designer - TECSYS, March 2000 to May 2000
Working with a team, designed the content and structure for a Web-Based Training solution targeted toward executives and decision makers). The course provided an overview of supply chain software solutions. Responsibilities included training analysis (audience, context, tasks and content) design and development of the WBT component and interactive learning strategy and design of the navigation structure.
Researcher - CESAM (le Centre d'Expertise et de service en applications multimédia), March 2000
Supported CESAM's North American study “The Impact of New Media on the Industry of Education and Training” by interviewing key speakers at Elliott Massie's “Online & e-Learning Conference” in Seattle. Delivered a paper and presentation outlining the key finding as to the future of new media in education and training. Developed a document structure for HR PowerPoint presentation training linked to an Electronic Performance Support System. End-users use the presentations to review Domtar's business processes.

Documented Bombardier's new SAP implementation. The final product enabled end-users to access web based documentation through the company's intranet. Paper manuals and classroom training materials were also produced. Key challenge: updating the documentation as the procedures changed during the project.

Performed task analysis of Car Accounting and SAP Accounts Payable positions. Set curriculum and design training programs to enable new hires to quickly learn the major responsibilities of their position. Key challenge: making the material comprehensible to someone unfamiliar with computers and accounting principles.
Educational Technologist - University of the West Indies, October 1997 (Trinidad)
As part of an effort with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and Concordia University, assisted UWI faculty in effectively applying educational technology methods to their university curriculum. Emphasis was placed on pedagogical principles adult learning theories. Key challenge: using low-tech methods to achieve high-tech results.
Performance Consultant - Pfizer, May 1997 to August 1997 (Montreal)
Performed a needs assessment and task analysis on Pfizer's hiring process. The project included the design of a Lotus Notes database to manage the work flow. A web based application form (and underlying database) was developed and significantly improved the Human Resource Department's résumé processing. Key challenge: unraveling the informal communication and procedures followed by the various levels of management.
Instructional Designer and Developer - Industry Canada, October 1996 to June 1997 (Montreal, Ottawa)
Researched and developed an Electronic Performance Support System to assist small and medium size businesses conducting internal skill assessments. The final product is included in Industry Canada's Strategis web site. Key challenge: distilling best practices, condense the material into a test and provide comprehensive feedback.

Identified and evaluated suitable delivery methods for the regular distribution of instructional materials to 15,000 CN employees.
Performance Consultant - BNH Expert Software, April 1996 to August 1996 (Montreal, Ottawa)
Evaluate existing training delivery methods to determine the most appropriate media for course delivery for CIDA & the Department of Foreign Affairs. Designed and developed a Computer Based Training program for users of a mainframe database application for the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. Additional duties included the development of a learning game, sales strategies and corporate marketing materials. Assisted in the development of a training cost model and associated performance support tool.

Instructional Designer and Technical Trainer - Canadian International Development Agency & Zimbabwe Project (Concordia and University of Zimbabwe), September 1994 to January 1995 (Zimbabwe)
Designed and delivered computer and video training programs for technicians and support staff at the University of Zimbabwe. Emphasis was placed on adult learning principles. Responsibilities included needs analysis, development of manuals and job aides as well as the selection of appropriate texts. Key challenge: making the curriculum accessible to more people.
Aquatic Director - Alumni Aquatic Centre, St. Francis Xavier University, May 1983 to August 1993
Responsible for the management of a staff of thirty employees. Duties included strategic planning, budgeting, development of operating procedures, policies, program development, staff hiring and training, training manuals and research of rescue procedures. Introduced several revenue generating and cost cutting programs. Successfully developed a computerized scheduling and billing system. Key challenge: creating an excellent facility and staff with a minimum expense.
