Mini Project title: Design of Pneumatic Hacksaw
Summary:
The pneumatic has gained a large amount of importance in last few decades. The main objective of our project was to perform sawing operations with the help of pneumatic sources. As the air is freely available, we can utilize the air to cut the metal and hence it is economical. The operation of the unit was simplified to a few simple operations involving cylinder block and piston arrangement.
Project title: Development and Testing of Sand Blasting Equipment Summary:
One of the draw backs of FDM parts is its surface finish. This is mainly due to staircase effect. This problem can be rectified by varying the FDM process parameters such as layer thickness, raster width, air gap, raster angle etc., which is a pre-production method to get a better surface finish. Apart from varying the process parameters it is also possible to improve the surface finish by using post production method such as Sand/Bead blasting, chemical treatment, painting. In our project an attempt is made to develop Sand blasting equipment which is used to reduce surface roughness of FDM parts.
Specimens were printed using Aha 3D Protocentre 999 printer which uses FDM process to print ABS parts. Tests were carried out using the sand blasting equipment, by varying parameters such as abrasive used, Pressure, and the stand- off distance. Each specimen was tested was tested under different condition and the finished part was checked for its surface roughness using a Talysurf.
