“Reliability Aspects of the Wind Power System”, (Sep’15 – Dec’15) - Wind power generation is inconsistent and intermittent energy source. The fluctuation in the wind speed results in the power output variation. Due to this situation, it became necessary to understand the influences of wind energy on conventional electrical network as the output characteristic of wind source is completely different. In this, Capacity Outage Probability table (COPT) is convenient approach for reliability assessment. Another important basic index for the system reliability evaluation is called the loss of load expectation (LOLE) defined as the average number of hours or days per year for which load is expected to exceed available capacity. Frequency and duration method is an extension of the LOLE index which concerns about the expected frequency of deficiencies and the expected duration of deficiencies for no de rated states for generators. Case study is performed using this system and the performance is analyzed analytically.

“Performance of Distance Relay during Swings and Symmetrical Faults”, (Jan’15 – Apr’15) - Symmetrical faults and the swing are seems to be alike for the relay for the detection of disturbances in the network. The performance of the relay to not act against the stable swings (temporary) and act only to the symmetrical faults and swings, designed using ATP-EMTP software are analyzed and theoretical calculations are done using MATLAB.

“Mitigation of Fault Caused by Lightning Using Arresters”, (Sep’14 – Dec’14) - Lightning leads to the complete outage of the power supply unless proper protection is used. In this, using the ATP-EMTP software the transmission line is designed and the performance is analyzed by installing the proper lightning arrester at various sections of the line to mitigate the lightning effect.

“AC Power Flow Optimization using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) Technique”, (Sep’14 – Dec’14) - Optimization of the power system network is not an easy task to do as it depends on various non-related parameters. To unify them in to a single entity so that it satisfy the condition required for optimization are done using the Particle Swarm Optimization technique (PSO) in MATLAB software.

“Analysis of Different topologies for power factor correction using DC-DC Converters”, (Jan’13 – Mar’13) - Power factor (pf) is the most important factor when we talk about the power quality. Unity power factor helps in increment of the active power generation, increases the efficiency of the power system. Pf is improved using the Dc-Dc converters which are different configurations of the passive elements employed at various sections of the power system network.

“Study about Transmission Line Feeders”, on 220/132/33 KV substation at Durshed, Karimnagar (Nov’12) - Design of the transmission line feeders plays a vital role in transferring the electric energy generated to the consumer end. The standards of the feeder lines and their configurations are studied. ACHEIVEMENTS
