PROJECT DETAILS OF DIPLMO IN MECHANICAL ENGINERRING

Project Title: Design of Light-Weight Lifting Portable Crane

Team of 4 members

Area of Problem

Moving of the treated specimens form furnace to the working space is a challenging works. This efforts are minimized by design of manually or hand transported crane with power lifting and dropping.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Design of three wheeled moving base.

Three phase electrical motors is used for lifting of loads.

Rectangular cross section of steel angles is used for build the structure of crane.

Steering wheel is provided for handle the clear destination.

Handling or for the lifting of the hot materials form the furnaces.

Load carrying capacity is up to 100KG.

It is like that of small type of the crane.

PROJECT DETAILES OF BACHULAR OF ENGINERRING (MECHANICAL ENGINERRING)

Project Name: Quality Improvement of Nozzle Guide Vane for the Pilotless Target Aircraft Engine (PTAE)

Project is carried at: Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd (HAL)

Engine Division, Methods Department

Bangalore

Team Of 2 Engineering students

Tools and Technology used: Fixture, Jigs, CNC machine, solid edge etc.

Area of Problem.

Manufacturing of Nozzle Guide Vane for PTAE aircraft engine requires high dimensional accuracy. The high chuck pressure of the CNC Machine reduced the accuracy and surface finish of NGV. The acceptance of the NGV of PTAE engine is reduced up to 70% of total machined.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The nozzle guide vane is the most important component in the aero engine. This guides the exhaust high pressure and temperature gas to impinge the turbine blades at a predetermined angle.

This component is manufactured at high degree of accuracy.

Initially the component is made up casting process and then machined to required dimensions.

The problem was found in the machining the component in the SBCNC machine in HAL.

The component is rejected due to problem during machining.

As these fixtures are used for batch production, it reduces the cycle time and also overall machining time.

The rejection of the component is eliminated.

Details of Project No 1 In M-tech (Product Design and Manufacturing)

Project Carried at: PLSAMA CUT WELD ENGINEERS

No of People: Single

Duration of Project: 1.2 Years

Tools and Technology Used: Ansys, Creo, Solidworks, Shot Peening, Chrome Plating and Chrome Plated With Shot Peening.

Project Name: Design and Optimization of Slot-Welded Impeller of Centrifugal Compressor.

Details of Project:

Centrifugal pump impeller is a rotating component and it converts the mechanical energy of pump in to pressure energy of fluids.

A recent literature survey describes that, 90% failure of impeller has been taking place because of the Fatigue loads and Complex stresses arise during the pump operation.

The fatigue analyses is conducted to predict the fatigue life and to identify the critical failure location by numerical simulation in ANSYS.

To compare the materials of shot peened, chrome plated and shot peened and chrome plated for their fatigue life.

Optimization of the impeller is carried out to optimize the mass and fatigue life of the impeller.

Impeller made by the material treatment of shot peened obtains 10e4 more numbers of fatigue cycles than other tried out.

Optimum angular velocity of 3000 rad/sec gives maximum life of 10e6 cycles of fatigue life for all material treatments tried out.

Impeller made by the blade angle of 83 reduces the mass of 15% out of 0.3985 kg.

Shot peened impeller has found zero cycles of fatigue life only at the area of stress concentration.
