PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
EcoCAR 3 May 2015 - Present
Team Member
EcoCAR 3 is the latest DOE Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition series. The teams have to redesign a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro to reduce its environmental impact, while maintaining its power and performance.
All design and analysis performed using NX10. Responsibilities included,
Integration and packaging of the new hybrid powertrain into the Camaro. This included the GM 2.4 Liter I4 Ecotec LEA Engine, GKN AF 130 motor, 8L90 eight speed automatic transmission and a Single plate clutch with a hydraulically actuated throw out bearing
CAD modeling of Energy Storage System (ESS) containers and enclosures
Design and FEA of the powertrain mounts and ESS. Analysis performed was a static structural test on the mounts for 20g’s lateral and longitudinal, 8g’s vertical and self-weight
Formula Hybrid: - Team Chimera October 2011 – June 2014
The Team is mainly focused on R&D of hybrid vehicle technology. Executed two projects during time spent.
Developed a Series PHEV from a REVA-i EV, by adding an engine and a generator
Integration and packaging of Honda GX390 engine and Agni PMDC motor/generator to the powertrain
Design and manufacture of a flange coupling to withstand 27Nm of torque for power transfer
Founding member of the first Indian team that designed, developed and fabricated a hybrid racecar prototype for the Formula Hybrid competition held at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Designs were performed using SOLIDWORKS and analysis using ANSYS.
Led the design and fabrication of the double wishbone suspension system
Co-lead for sponsorship activities, secured around $9000 in funding and tech support for the team
Stood 9th out of a total of 24 teams for the May 2014 event
Mahindra Reva Electric Cars Limited, Bangalore, India July 2013 – September 2013
Brake Systems Engineering Intern
Independently responsible to resolve brake pull issues on the Mahindra Reva e2o EV
Performed root cause analysis to determine reasons for possible causes
Analyzed and designed experiments to determine potential cause of issues
Successfully simulated counter measures on prototype vehicle, developed solution, validated results and implemented permanent fix on the car
PROJECTS
Design of an Autonomous Surveillance Vehicle November 2014
Competition to design, simulate and manufacture a surveillance vehicle with programmable electronics. The vehicle is to traverse a figure 8 around 2 buildings.
The vehicle was made using Lego blocks.
Design was performed on SOLIDWORKS
MATLAB was used for to optimize the gear ratio of 1:8 for the 3 stage gearbox and the ratio for timing mechanism for the steering to 1:64
Won the Product Design course project and competed against 16 teams
Sparkline Equipment Private Limited, Pune, India February 2014 – May 2014
Product Design Engineering Intern
Independently designed and fabricated an autonomous fixture for the assembly of an End Carriage and Girder in an Electronically Operated Trolley (EOT) crane, using CATIA V5. Load analysis and failure calculations performed using ANSYS.
Conceptual design, evaluation of various concepts and final design recommendation
Material selection and material procurement analysis
Selection of feasible manufacturing techniques for the parts
Developed project business case, cost/benefit analysis and Return on Investment (ROI)
The ROI was projected at 3.2 years. The time for assembly was reduced from 5 to 1 hour and the workers needed were reduced by 50%
Siemens Corporation, Malaysia June 2012 – September 2012
