ACADEMIC PROJECTS

M.E. (Major)

Project Title: Design and Analysis of 5Y Spokes Motorcycle Front Alloy Wheel

Project Guide: DR. G. Thanigaiyarasu

Methodology: Design and Material study, Reverse Engineering, Force Calculation, Analysis and Modification

Objective: Designing and analysing a 5Y spokes motorcycle front alloy wheel under various conditions in order to sort out the real time failure

Description: The designing and analysis of the 5Y spokes motorcycle front alloy wheel was conducted at various levels. The test results provided the details of the real time failure. The simulation was performed in ANSYS 14.5 and the model was redesigned in order to avoid failure.

Key Learnings: Reverse Engineering, 5Y Spokes Alloy wheel, Analysis and CAD Modeling

B.E. (Major)

Project Title: Vibration Analysis in Wind Turbines

Project Guide: T.Sunder Selwyn

Methodology: Literature survey, Selection of Experimental Procedure, Vibration Measuring Instrument and

Experimental Analysis

Objective: Measuring the vibrations in various parts of the wind turbine & controling it by using isolators and generating the stable mathematical model of wind turbine

Description: The project was undertaken in order to find the vibration parameters such as velocity, acceleration and amplitude on a vibration generator. The vibration produced by the wind turbine components is measured by means of vibration meter. The accelerometer used is piezoelectric type. The vibration signature detected by accelerometer is tabulated as a spread sheet using data acquisition software

and the characteristic charts were also drawn.

Key Learnings: Gained practical knowledge on the areas of Mechanical Vibration, Vibration in Wind Turbine Components, Vibration Analysis, Rootcause Analysis and Experimental Setup.

B.E. (Minor)

Project Title: Design and Fabrication of Sub-Sonic Smoke Tunnel

Objective: The aim of the project is to design and fabricate a smoke tunnel experimental setup to form a Cloud patterns, in the upper part of the atmospheric boundary layer.

Description: An experiment was conducted to see if major features of these atmospheric vortex streets and

associated atmospheric conditions could be simulated in a wind tunnel.
