Dear Hiring Manager:

Having a former award-winning journalist for newspapers and magazines on your communications team is a powerful asset for a company. Having someone with 15 years of corporate communications, combined with journalism gives you a very strong advantage.

I have both experiences and would like to be considered for the role of Senior Internal Communications Manager for Genesis Global Management Corporation.

The strengths I bring include superb corporate storytelling and strong relationship-building skills across the enterprise. My passion for internal communications stems from the fact that when you have well-informed employees who feel included, and you can align business goals with employee communications, you have a much stronger company. As a longtime journalist, I know how to find and create great content for employees.

At Boeing, I worked as the lead communicator for the CEO at Boeing. During that time, I served on a team that focused on changing Boeing’s culture of legacy companies to “One Boeing.” When the CEO retired, I took a contract position at Alaska Airlines, as Director of Internal Communications. That successful stint produced a number of internal employee campaigns that have carried on today. I also wrote and edited Alaska’s daily online newspaper.

In the few years I worked at Mosaic, the company broke records for speaking engagements at conferences and trade shows. Last year, Mosaic was featured in eight national publications (most written by me) a total savings of more than $350,000 of free, earned publicity. The company went from zero presence in social media to thousands. I aligned marketing with business development and created campaigns for the sales teams. Just as important, I started a company newsletter, created a landing page on the employees’ intranet for news and features, wrote a monthly column for the CEO and planned employee events. When an employee survey was sent out in August, the company ratings were the highest in eight years, citing “better communications.”

In October, I agreed to help a colleague with a start-up company, CONTENT-Digital Writing Services. Digital marketing has changed more in the last two years than in the last 50 years, and CONTENT is riding that wave by providing digital writing and marketing services. This is a contract role.

I’ve worked with C-level executives for the past 17 years, speechwriting, coaching for media interviews and providing strategic communications support. I’ve worked as a partner with HR leadership to provide employee campaigns and employee messaging.

My BA is in communications and earth sciences from the University of Washington. I am currently enrolled in a digital marketing business technology program at Bellevue College for marketing and communications leaders to update on the latest technology. This includes mobile and digital marketing, Adobe Creative Suite 2015, SharePoint and PowerPoint software. The coursework is online.

I would love to talk further about the value I could bring to the company. Thank you for the consideration.

Respectfully,

Christina E. Kelly
