VCU Health academic health system is an 865-bed facility that serves as the only Level I Trauma & Burn center in Central Virginia for adults and children and is the regional referral center. Acute Care Surgical team of 10 surgeons and 12 Nurse Practitioners

Duties include but not limited to:

Daily rounds on all assigned patients with notes, consults and orders with review of all test and imaging in conjunction with Attending physician. Work to achieve discharge by noon when appropriate. Complete discharge process, medication reconciliation and discharge summary on assigned patients.

Run traumas in Trauma Bay with Trauma intern and Chief Resident. Quickly facilitate disposition into or out of the health care system

Utilize current research to develop, implement and evaluate critical paths and standards of care for identified patient populations. Incorporate research findings into practice. Demonstrate knowledge and support for clinical trials within specialty area.

Perform select procedures under physician supervision (Chest tube removal, Central line removal, etc)

Develop research projects to answer questions involving patient populations in trauma surgery.
