PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
Heavy Machining Manual Machine Tools including VTL
Joy Global Elko, NV 09/15-11/15
Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machine and vtl for service repair of large surface mining equipment. These machines are very difficult to run as some do have DRO others do not. The machines are also quite dated. These parts do require reverse engineering and require a service repair drawing and router be created by shop personnel. Many parts require weld undercut preparation then machining to OEM specifications. Some parts will be taken from burnouts, bar stock where applicable. This is true job shop work and this facility is located to service western US mining operations.
Private Consulting Applications and Engineering Support
Private Consulting for specialty motor manufacture 05/15-08/15
This client needed assistance with optimization of machine tool programs for both turning and milling. The also needed assistance with how to quickly set up milling to reduce set up times. They also needed assistance with acquisition of additional precision tools. The machines used were Haas ST10 and VF2 which were well matched for this work. Client was successful in reducing both cycle time and set up time. They were very good to work with and the results reflected with a very positive result.
Heavy Machining CNC VTL
GKN Aerospace, San Diego, CA 01/15-04/15
Set up and operate large format cnc vtl's machining large diameter aluminum aircraft parts.
These parts are proprietary to the engine builder and air frame builders such as Boeing.
Heavy Machining CNC VMC
Mitchell Machine, Rochester, NY 09/14-12/14
Set up and operate large format cnc vertical machining center. This is very demanding very short run job shop work. You can see anything from a casting to ground part blanks. Very critical that youu run work to tolerance and do so with delivery in mind. This is a very well run shop. .
CNC Programming/Operation
Precise Tool & Manufacturing, Inc., Rochester, NY – 3/2011-4/14
Function independently in programming and operating a Toshiba CNC vertical boring mill to produce large, high-exposure parts (blade rings) for use in aeronautical industry. Customer is a Fortune global technology company. Receive individual castings with customer value of $65,000; following critical set-ups and 60-100 hours of close-tolerance machining (DOD specs), units are worth $300,000.
Independent Sales, Management, Design, Engineering Support and Consulting
Functioned under DBA of Vector Engineering: as manufacturer’s representative and independent machine design engineer and installer. For 21 years (1988 to 2009) sold, installed and serviced
upwards of 40 RoboTool CNC milling machines in US and Canada, as well as related equipment. Represented numerous vendors.
Sturm Machine, Barboursville, WV 1974 -1981
Step up and ran both manual and the first NC machine installed by Mazak in WV. This was a very good learuning experience. We were really behind on pump shaft orders and this machine played a major role in resolving that issue. I also ran large boiler feed shafts on a 32” x 240” manual lathe. These shafts are expensive and made from 17-4 ph staiinless steel. These shafts are complex requiring several roughing operations. They also have threads and tapers which are critical.
PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
In addition to machine sales and installations, below are selected examples of various additional machine-building, retrofitting and manufacturing applications:
Commissioned by Taratec (Columbus, OH) and KPMG, to conduct in-depth assessment of the technology assets and capabilities of the Department of Defense’s Rock Island Arsenal, the largest weaponry manufacturer in the US. Goal was to assist the DOD in maximizing efficiency, quality and productivity to the enterprise.
Functioned independently in reviewing production records, equipment inventories; conducted cost analysis of supplies and materials management; reviewed production logistics, work flow and building layout; interviewed internal managers.
Recommended a comprehensive synthesis of internal business management and outsourced prototyping and manufacturing to the private sector.
Represented AMI (Painesville, OH) to various clients in the sale of encoding devices ($1,500 to $3,000). In the process sold key client a $250,000 retrofit of a $1.6 million Gantry milling machine. Independently designed and installed, including motors, wiring, controls. Hired part-time staff to assist at customer site.
Represented insurance company in conducting repair/replace cost analysis and recommendation
for $5 million machining and manufacturing company damaged by fire.
