Employment Objective: To obtain a sales and engineering position with a growth oriented company to utilize my interests and experience in sales and management in a technical environment.

Relevant Work Experience, (chronological order):

Westinghouse Electric Company, Small Power Transformer Division (Currently owned by ABB)

South Boston, Virginia,

Sales Engineer 1984-1986

This position supported sales of power transformers by interpreting customer specifications and drawings. preparing and pricing proposals, and working with field sales for order acquisition. I became knowledgeable on all aspects of liquid filled and dry type transformers. Other items in the scope of the equipment included MV disconnect switches and protective relaying. I was involved in organizing and presenting training seminars for Westinghouse field sales, hosting customers for engineering meetings and witness testing. Traveled to customer locations to support sales as needed

While in this role I was also trained on the transformer products from other Westinghouse plants such as small padmounts and pole mounted.

Westinghouse Electric Company, Medium Voltage Switchgear (Currently owned by Eaton)

Greenwood, SC

Sales Engineer 1986-1988

This position was sales and customer engineering of Medium Voltage Switchgear. I gained expertise in electrical switchgear in the 5kv to 15kv class, including instrumentation and control, protective relaying, control power transformers, and instrument transformers.

The tasks included customer specification review, quotation of projects, order entry, bill of material preparation, preliminary drawing for electrical and physical arrangements, electrical schemes, manufacturing coordination, purchasing of outside components.

I worked closely with sales to acquire orders, making customer calls as needed. I hosted customer engineers for approval meetings and witness tests, and served on continuous improvement teams.

Siemens Energy and Automation

Raleigh, North Carolina

Application Engineer 1988-1992

Similar position to the ones held at Westinghouse, except the equipment area was low voltage metal enclosed switchgear and low voltage substations. As Siemens did not manufacture power transformers, I was the key contact for the outside transformer purchases by other application engineers on substation packages.

While at Siemens-Raleigh, I led projects to create pricing programs for both internal use, and field sales use. The biggest difference was the internal program was PC based with more specification options, versus a field sales tool that would produce a good estimate price, with the idea of being a good way to involve the field salesman with the customers engineer. This program was successfully used for 6 years.

Siemens Energy and Automation

Greenville, SC

Account Manager 1992-1996

Represented Siemens as sales engineer to major architecture and design firms such as Fluor, Jacobs, and CH2MHill (Lockwood Greene) as well as industrial accounts in the upstate South Carolina territory. I was responsible for selling products such as motors, low voltage and medium voltage motor control, circuit protection and power distribution equipment, relaying, measuring and metering equipment to the assigned accounts. I gained experience selling complex, custom equipment, with long project cycles, as well as working with distributors and contractors on standardized products. Utilized team selling, as many of the large projects required management and input from multiple decision makers in different locations.

During my time as an Account Manager, I worked with Fluor purchasing and engineering management on a project to align Siemens and Fluor operations to present a partnership arrangement to Fluor clients for the electrical equipment needs for projects. The agreement included pricing, terms, deliverable commitments, and technical assistance to insure successful projects. The agreement was applicable to all Fluor locations requiring NEMA electrical equipment.

I was able to exceed my assigned sales loading in each of my years in this position, and was given the National Salesperson of the Year (Gold Medal) award for my efforts in 1994.

Siemens Transmission and Power Distribution - Raleigh, NC

Manager, Medium Voltage Switchgear 1996-1998

Managed a staff of 40 including sales engineers, customer order engineers, electrical and mechanical drafters, and electrical test technicians involved in the design and manufacture of customized electrical equipment for medium voltage circuit protection, metering and control.

Responsibilities included supervising order procurement, order engineering, maintaining the department work schedule, insuring quality of the departments output, Insuring compliance with ISO 9001 guidelines including creation and maintenance of work instructions and processes.

Led the MV switchgear department through organization changes, using principles of change management that combined application engineers from several product lines into a single group to aid in more competitive package proposals, as well as reducing costs through cross trained manpower. At this point my focus shifted to productivity in the medium voltage switchgear engineering team.

During the 1997 time frame I was tasked to lead a team to plan and execute the move of a product line of medium voltage outdoor circuit breakers from the Jackson, Ms facility. This involved the organization of thousands of mechanical and electrical drawings for design and previous customer orders, setting up engineering/drafting support in Raleigh, and transitioning the move of all necessary items to Raleigh.

Evaluated, hired, and trained technical staff, and drafting managers.

Accountable for the P&L and budgeting process for the product line, including salaries, materials, office equipment and supplies.

Involved in the training of field sales personnel in technical details and pricing knowledge.

Made customer calls with field sales persons as needed.

Beacon Food Services, Inc., Spartanburg, SC

Co-owner

1998-2016

I was part of a group that purchased the Beacon Drive-In restaurant in 1998 from the original owner and founder. I was involved in the purchase negotiations, business setup to meet federal, state, and local regulations. I was heavily involved in the change over from the previous management to the new ownership team. All aspects of small business management were required such as vendor relations, human resources, accounting accuracy, tax submissions and customer relations.

In March 2000, I began a project to bottle Beacon Drive-in Iced Tea for a retail product line. This involved working with a bottler to develop formulas, market research, life cycle testing, label design, nutritional label information, and vendor selection. The teas were launched for sale early 2001, beginning with one flavor, in a single serve size. Over the years I grew the distribution to include many areas of the Southeast United States, available through several grocery store chains. At this point, The Beacon has eight items for sale in hundreds of retail outlets.

Other Interests:

Classic automobiles, particularly of British manufacture. I am a past- president of the Southeastern British Motorcar Owners Club, and am an active member of the Sunbeam Alpine Owners Club of America. I am on the board of directors of the Greenville Scottish Games, an organization that promotes and produces one of the largest Scottish Highland Games in the southeast, and other ancillary events such as a parade, concerts, British car show, and a pageant.
