Independent Consultant - Futuris Automotive; Shanghai, China - 2013-2014 Coordinated with company’s local and global management teams to asses the current state of their operations, strategy and business plans in Asia. Developed, gained buy-in and support for an updated 5 year business plan and strategy covering existing and proposed operations in China and India. Delivered plan is inclusive of all operational areas and focuses on improving performance within the company’s existing business, as well as identifying and establishing a strategy for key targeted business segments and customers for future growth.

Managing Director - Asia, Commercial Vehicle Group; Shanghai, China 2012-2013 Combined the company’s China, India and South East Asia operations into one Asian group, reporting directly to the CEO. This included the development and launch of the company’s first production facility near Bangkok, Thailand to support regional customers and take advantage of new growth opportunities. Combined group covered six production facilities, two engineering and R&D centers, as well as regional headquarters. Refined and enhanced the regional business strategy, management team and structure to cover the full Asian footprint.

These accomplishments set in motion the means which are bringing additional global products to Asia in order to strategically grow the Asian business by 250% within a three year period. Managing Director - China, Commercial Vehicle Group; Shanghai, China 2006-2012 Assumed responsibility for all operational areas in China, reporting directly to company President. Developed, recruited when necessary, and refocused the management team into key functional areas with defined and measurable responsibilities, goals, and objectives. Developed and implemented the first comprehensive 5 year plan covering our overall Asian market strategy, targeting key markets in China, Japan, Korea, and South East Asia. Continually updated and refined the strategy based on changing market conditions and opportunities. As a direct result of developing and executing this plan, China operations grew from $4M in sales with 90% exported outside of Asia to $100M with 95% of sales within Asia.

Built and developed strong relationships with customers, suppliers, employees and business competitors. Leveraged these personal associations to aggressively add key customers and achieve dominant market share in China, while also maintaining and growing prior existing business in Japan, Korea, and South East Asia.

Managed P&L, maintained and grew profitability, even during the global financial crisis. Continually showed year-on-year profitability improvements, out-performing the corporate average and established reach targets.

Developed and launched a fully functional China based Engineering and Research & Development Center to support both domestic and global programs.

Expanded China operations to include a second factory in Beijing to support new products and key customers in North China.

Managing Director of Asian Procurement, Commercial Vehicle Group; Shanghai, China 2005-2006 Relocated to Shanghai, China to create and manage a world class sourcing and supplier quality organization. Developed and managed sourcing and supplier quality teams to fully support regional and global sourcing needs. Collaborated with global customers to identify and develop a Chinese supply base to meet requirements for local and global supply, establishing a framework to provide future key supplier partners to support future expansion and development. Escalated localization efforts for domestic China production. Achieved 45% landed cost reduction and reached 80% local content across all products.

Director of Purchasing, Commercial Vehicle Group; Dublin, OH 2003-2005 Led and coordinated the company’s efforts towards establishing a wholly foreign owned enterprise in Shanghai, China. Completed extensive dealings and negotiations with Chinese Government authorities, contractors, land agents, attorneys and vendors. Facilitated the integration of the company’s Asian strategy into the broader global operations strategy. Coordinated the Asian sourcing and production operations relationship within the company, with Asian customers, and with outside investment groups. Responsible for designing and implementing the company’s Asian purchasing strategy and organization, spending 80% of working time at the company’s greenfield development site in Shanghai, China. Actively managed four Commodity Managers to achieve company cost savings and vendor management goals and objectives. Achieved cost savings targets of $3M in spite of a down business cycle and 60% customer dictated supply base.

Developed and implemented a corporate supplier development program, covering vendor expectations in the fields of quality, delivery, service, technology and pricing. Conceived and implemented a restructuring of the purchasing organization to serve all divisions on a global basis. Senior Commodity Manager, PACCAR, Inc.; Bellevue, WA 2001-2003 Served as the primary Purchasing manager for all interior trim items. Successfully managed the supply base while developing and implementing a global PACCAR interior trim sourcing strategy on all current and new model programs.

Successfully managed numerous supply issues with multiple financially troubled / high-risk suppliers. Resourced, without supply disruption, all PACCAR molded floor mats and interior soft trim due to supplier insolvencies. Coordinated resource efforts, terms and conditions between PACCAR, Navistar and Volvo/Mack.

Worked with suppliers to develop strategic and complementary long-term agreements. Commodity Manager, PACCAR, Inc.; Bellevue, WA 2000-2001 Served as the primary Purchasing manager for fasteners, nameplates, safety and convenience items. Worked with PACCAR’s prime fastener supplier to further consolidate, standardize and capitalize on volume purchases across divisions.

Senior Buyer - Worldwide Purchasing, General Motors; Warren, MI 1999-2000 Developed and implemented a standard global policy for Academic Partnership contacts. Moved General Motors from multiple agreements, varying by university, to a single, worldwide, common format. Served in an advisory capacity with General Motors China to establish vendor contacts in the Asia Pacific region.

Continued to function as the Subcontract Administrator for all of General Motors’ Government Contracts, as well as purchasing a variety of research & development services and serving as a liaison with corporate legal staff on intellectual property issues.

Buyer - Worldwide Purchasing, General Motors; Warren, MI 1996-1999 Acted as the first single-point Buyer/Subcontract Administrator for General Motors’ Government Contracts. Developed and implemented on a corporate wide basis, policies and procedures for purchasing under Government funded programs. Coordinated these policies with established corporate purchasing guidelines to ensure maximum shareholder value.

Served as a single-point Buyer on a fast to market, advanced metal forming technology program. Purchased capital equipment, software development, goods, and services from across all commodity groups. Functioned as an integral member of the program management team to maintain program goals, timing and integrity.

Deputy Program Manager, Bradson Corporation; Arlington, VA 1996-1996 Worked in support of the United States Marine Corps on a weapons transfer and document translation project for Brazil. Duties included contract management and analysis, project scheduling, as well as final review and approval of all documents delivered to the Government.
