HR MANAGER – supporting Heavy Civil/Constructors Canada SBU - contract

Responsible for providing full service HR support for the above noted client group. Including, but not limited to:

. Recruiting – all levels, full scope for both internal and external recruiting – as well as key interface for the secondments to the Crosslinx partnership, as well as coop recruiting activities

. Performance and Talent management – including involuntary terminations – preparation of packages and calculations, coaching managers on the process, participating in the exit interviews with the affected employees – involved with nine-box talent reviews for the various projects I supported

Immigration – working along-side our internal Subject matter experts, assisting with LMIA screening and audit preparation, assisting in gathering documents and background information for WP extensions, as well as information gathering to determine feasibility of hiring of Aecon employees outside of Canada for Inter-co Transfers

Director, Resourcing 2012 – 2014

Responsible for providing sourcing services and a flow of qualified candidates for all open vacancies across Canada. Acted as the key interface for the Canadian resourcing team with headquarters in France & Global Resourcing out of the UK to ensure implementation of any Global staffing initiatives and programs are “fit for purpose” across Canada. Functioned as subject matter expert on internal and external recruiting which included expertise in Canadian Immigration knowledge. As lead for the Recruiting/Sourcing team was also responsible for “Key” university relationship building and any branding initiatives implemented at the Canada level.

Led 2 key projects across Canada over the course of 12 months which focused on the implementation of an upgrade to our ATS/Taleo which automated both the requisition approval and offer approval to an online approval process resulting in efficiencies and cost savings.

Successfully lead the team that annually recruited on average 100 positions per year, at all levels (mostly engineering professionals). During my tenure turn over averaged close to 5% per year.

For more senior roles or more difficult roles was “hands-on” for the full recruitment cycle.

Successfully managed significant increases in recruiting needs for the company in both Toronto and Montreal by expanding the team and quickly getting those new team members up to speed on tools and process.

Participated in the RFP process as company moved to a Managed Service Provider for all contingent labor needs within Canada.

Requested to represent Canada in the Global implementation of Workday for Resourcing and Onboarding Workstreams – ensuring that local legal constraints and Canadian employment laws were adhered to.

Manager, Recruiting 2007 – 2011

Key accountabilities included implementation and the delivery of effective recruitment programs and policies to achieve Thales Canada's business strategy. .

As Project Manager, implemented in Canada 2 different ATS systems – both Job Partners and Taleo that were global implementations and ensured that the systems met all legislative and local business requirements. This streamlined the recruiting process and improved responsiveness to business needs.

Implemented the use of social network tools that reduced costs relating to recruiting, eliminating the use of 3rd party agencies and building strong local pipelines of candidates for ongoing vacancies

Implemented a centralized sourcing team that ensured all vacancies within Canada were managed through a single team based out of Toronto; this resulted in a significant cost savings through significant reduction of external recruitment agencies and job board licenses.

Acted as Project Manager in the final phases of the implementation of Ultipro as a centralized payroll system – this project reduced the use of 4 separate instances of ADP into one centralized instance of Ultipro. Worked with representatives from all key business domains within Thales Canada from Human Resources, Finance & Accounting and Information Technology.

Team was created to address some major issues within the Urban Rail business It included cross-functional members from Industrialization, Safety Assurance, Quality Assurance and Business Development. The focus was to develop a culture of Safety during a significant phase of the business that moved from under Alcatel-Lucent management into the Thales global organization.

Sr. Human Resources Generalist 1997 – 2006

Provided Human Resources support and guidance for the company (approximately 850 permanent and temporary non-union) in the areas of recruiting, immigration, compensation, employee relations and policy development

Led recruitment at all levels, locations and types of employees. Worked directly with external agencies, posting jobs, screening applicants, participating in career fairs, first round interview participation. Identified successful candidate, work closely with the hiring managers to construct an attractive offer package (suggest signing bonus’, relocation package creation, etc.). Assisted in the year over year growth of 20%.

Manage all facets of International HRM issues (new hires from out of country, employees traveling on business and/or going on short or long term assignments). Interface with counterparts in other countries, or deal with more senior levels within HR in the US and Europe. Worked with external immigration specialist to create package for work permit application (Canada and the US).

Liaised with in-house Compensation & Benefits Specialist on salary surveys and provide feedback on job descriptions and career paths.

Participated as part of the ADP implementation team in converting HRIS from a stand-alone Access Database to an integrated ADP HR Resource Partner. As well as assisted with the recent conversion to SAP company-wide.

Worked closely with Managers to construct valid Performance Improvement Action Plans relating to employee performance issues that included meaningful and applicable actions and goals for both management and the employee to work towards.

Handled exit interviews with employees, both voluntarily and involuntarily terminations, including calculation of severance, obtaining external legal counsel on issues, co-ordinate outplacement counseling. Managed all logistics, documentation and co-ordination of two mass-terminations, both in Toronto and Vancouver Mentor and provide coaching to other members of the HR staff on various issues.
