This $15.8 million project consisted of furnishing and installing eight escalators at Roosevelt Island Station 63rd Street Line Borough of Manhattan. The work comprised of four construction phases with a contract duration of 39 months with an estimated cost of $15.3 million, which included the removal and replacements of eight existing escalators, the modification of the existing smoke detection system and sprinkler system of all station escalators, replacement of access hatches and equipment hatches, the installation of new HVAC equipment, and other incidental work. I was instrumental in doubling the profit margins and was awarded Skanska Safety project of the year 2008.

Quality Control Engineer/ Assistant Project Manager

Served as Quality Control Engineer for the reconfiguration of the elevated track way and the installation of new power and signal systems. The work for this project entailed the demolition of forty bridge spans of structural steel, the demolition of structural concrete elevated track bed, reconfiguration of the tracks, and electrical signal installation. I coordinated the surveying of all existing structures that were reconfigured with new structural steel, reviewed all shop drawings and submittals from subcontractors, and inspected materials to ensure compliance with approved shop drawings, especially the fabricated steel prior to erection. Also conducted quality audits of subcontractors and represented the company in quality control seminars sponsored by New York City Transit.

nNew York City Transit, Rehabilitation of Subway Roof at Atlantic Ave. Station IRT Line 06/1997–12/2000 Brooklyn, NY

Quality Control Engineer

Quality Control Engineer for the waterproofing of the Atlantic Avenue Station roof This project included replacement of passengers platforms, demolition and replacement of structural steel columns and Beams supporting the roof, new structural concrete roof and ventilation structures, new utilities, power and electric signal, the phased excavation of the roadway to the roof structure, waterproofing the structure, backfilling and resurfacing. All work required extensive coordination with subway operation for work under diversions and flagging, and the New York City Department of Transportation for street work. I assumed full responsibility for material acceptance and installation procedures.

Quality Control Engineer

As Quality Control Engineer I was responsible for communicating quality control regulations and procedures to all project personnel, in addition to making sure that Skanska quality control program, standards procedures and codes were understood and implemented correctly. This project involved the replacement of escalators and other activities, such as electrical work, placement of structural concrete and various finishes, such as painting, installation of ceramic tiles and plaster.

Other Relevant Experience 1981/1997

Prior to joining Skanska, I worked for 15 years on many highways, roads, bridges, and viaduct construction projects, for such clients as New York City Department of Transportation, New York State Department of Transportation, and Maryland Department of Transportation. On these projects, I assumed the position of Resident Engineer, Chief Inspector, Office Engineer, Senior inspector, in which I supervised teams of inspectors responsible for the construction inspection/ supervision of MPT, electrical work, Structural steel, the installation of structural concrete barriers, abutment walls, piles, the demolition of viaducts, drainage structures, the resurfacing of roadways, lead paint abatement and disposal, structural steel painting, the installation of sign structures, asphalt, concrete and soil testing for compliance and strength, and rejection of those not in compliance, in addition to record keeping for all material delivered in accordance with the specification and the Manual for Uniform Record Keeping (MURK) and CEES software. Special attention was place to the schedule and project sequencing during all construction projects. A partial list of Consulting Firms and project is detailed below.
