Dril-Quip Responsibilities
Engineering and Project Management
Directed the design and analysis of electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated, mechanical assemblies through the complete product life cycle. Executed phases from feasibility studies, overall system level design, and architecture: through to the detailed design of parts and assemblies, documentation, final product and testing. Worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team including mechanical engineers, industrial designers, electrical engineers, and software developers to develop designs of products and subsystems.
Product Design
Designed and analyzed mechanical components and systems using PTC Creo and Mathcad. Interfaced with FEA department to validate designs with ANSYS. Used SolidWorks to conduct motion studies. Interfaced with outside vendors and suppliers to spec out and source sensors, PLC systems and modules, RF antennas and receivers. Package equipment and incorporate electronic sensors to automate mechanisms. Researched existing technologies to avoid patent infringement and identify new Intellectual Property (IP).

PAST PROJECTS
Development of a Coffee Flavoring and Creamer Dispenser (EIEIO Inc.) Worked on designing sheet metal consumer based products that housed electronics, pumps, motors, and refrigeration equipment. Integrated air filtration system in new and existing designs to reduce dust collection on electronics pumps and motors. Applied high volume production techniques to old designs and converted sheet metal parts to plastic injection molding. Increased profit margins by 80% and decreased rework rates by 90%.
Development of a Whipped Cream Dispenser (EIEIO Inc.) Worked on developing a machine that would be able to dispense a portion-controlled amount of whipped cream. Specked out pumps, electronics, motors, power supplies, fasteners, qualified vendors, and mold makers. Built and tested proof of concepts and prototypes.
Implementation of a Small Scale Rapid Prototyping lab (NOV LLC.) Spearheaded a small scale-testing department to correlate full-scale design to 1/10th scale that reduced testing costs and turnaround time. Identified a strong correlation between full and small scale, which reduced troubleshooting cost from $35,000 per experiment to less than $500. Build prototypes by printing parts with an SLA 3D printer, fabricated silicon rubber molds to duplicate master and cast using polyurethane thermoset plastics.
Development of an Over Molded Rubber/Metal Mechanical seal for use in High Temp, High Pressure subsea drilling (Sealing range 3.5” to 7.625” diameters) (NOV LLC.) Designed new products and experiments, wrote test procedures, conducted root cause failure analysis (RCFA), and coordinated with third party inspectors for design validation. Worked with mold manufactures to design molds, troubleshoot first articles, and assure product quality. ACHIEVEMENTS
Co-inventor of a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag system that automatically rotationally aligns oilfield equipment during the drilling process. The mechanism reduced potential Health Safety Environment (HSE) occurrences and run time by eliminating the need for human interaction.
Co-inventor of two patents pertaining to subsea drilling riser-coupling systems. Saved the end user approximately $33,000/hour for potential service visits and approximately $200,000 per occurrence.
Co-inventor of an over molded mechanical seal used for drilling HP/HT wells. The seal changed diameter from 3.5” to 7.625” ID and seals at temperatures ranging from 32 -350 F. Increased efficiency by 180% @ 250 -350 F, and over 240% @ < 180 F.
Served as an inventor of a proprietary pumping system designed for the food and beverage industry. The single use system reduced downtime, product contamination, and eliminated the need for cleaning.
HOBBIES
I enjoy fixing anything that is broken. From rebuilding cars, electric mowers, electronics, computers, gutting and remodeling houses. I have rebuilt computers and put together my CAD computer. I enjoy learning new things, favorite show on TV is “How it’s Made” EMPLOYMENT/ WORK PERMIT STATUS
