DIESEL MECHANIC/PLANT FITTER

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

DART-bus mechanic (2009 to April 2015)

Duties:

Perform preventive maintenance on a fleet of city buses with Cummins M11 & ISM diesel engines, NABI bus with ISL CNG fueled engines, air brakes disc & drum with shoes,

Suspension: identify worn knuckles, kingpins & bushings & repair. Check air rides for cracking & leaks. Levelling valves for proper ride height.

Drive train: Inspect for leaking wheel seals, wheel bearings, differential seals, axles & hubs. Automatic transmissions check fluids & shifting pattern. Manual transmission check clutch operation, adjustments, leaks & fluid level. Inspect u-joints for wear, lube & torque bolts. Check condition of support (carrier) bearings. Remove & repair as necessary.

Steering: inspect for fluid leaks, binding, integrity, hydraulic hoses & reservoir.

Heating & air conditioning: check heater cores, valves & coolant hoses, blower operation & controls, cabin air filter. Verify A/C compressor operation, oil level & mounting. Clutch cycling & refrigerant level.

Electrical & electronic repairs: check/repair lights, horn, alternator charging, battery condition, remove & replace electronic modules, ECM, body control modules.

Attend to service (road) calls. Perform annual vehicle inspections.

SPEED-FABCRETE (2008-2009)

Duties: Perform repairs on cranes, concrete mixers, semi-truck & trailers, loaders, generators & stationary equipment. Performed hydraulic work by replacing pumps, hoses, valves, overhaul cylinders & troubleshooting. Replaced worn cables on boom cranes.

CONTRACTOR (2006-2008)

Self-employed & taking up contract work with several customers. Worked on different equipment including gas/diesel vehicles, heavy diesel trucks, generators, folk-lifts.

RUAN TRANSPORT (2000-2002)

Duties: Perform preventive maintenance on heavy diesel trucks consisting of Freightliners, Kenworth & Volvo. Brake overhauls, clutch replacement, air conditioning work. Performing customer service calls.

BP SHELL ZIMBABWE (1994-1996)

Duties: Performed preventive maintenance work on fleet of tanker trucks, DAF, Volvo, Mercedes Benz & Scania.

Brake overhauls, clutch replacements, suspension repairs, vehicle inspections & attended to road calls.

Enrolled in a 4-year apprenticeship training as a Diesel Plant Fitter.

Duties: Worked on a mixed fleet comprising of gas pick-up trucks, medium & heavy diesel trucks, off-highway dump trucks, earthmoving equipment (Cat, Aveling Barford, O & K). Performed preventive maintenance, brakes (hydraulic & pneumatic), clutch overhauls, electrical & hydraulic work. Also repaired engines & transmissions.
