WR Carpenter (PNG) cocoa trading operations commenced 2 years ago (2013) and is gradually gaining market share being the third largest exporter of PNG cocoa. WR Carpenters operates nine procurement units throughout Papua New Guinea and one procurement unit in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsible for the overall Cocoa Division Profit & Loss (cradle to grave) cocoa procurement and sales operations throughout Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands which includes accounting, audit, capital/cash flow budgeting, logistics, hedging/futures/finance, sales, hiring/training of new/existing staff, implementing industry best practices and performance / KPI overviews.
To provide and communicate market information, obtain competitors prices and provide daily purchase prices based on the ICE New York/Liffe close to warehouse managers for distribution throughout the supply chain. This is to ensure that all partners in the supply chain have transparency of prices including exchange rates between USD /PNG Kina/Sol Dollar.
Implemented Standard Operating Procedures (Industry Best Practices) and Internal Controls for all origin cocoa procurement operations which monitors and records daily purchases, deliveries, stocks and fund recap.
To monitor Daily Reporting Templates for compliance, completeness, accuracy, cut off and existence on a daily basis and update daily profit/loss stock price risk exposures.
To communicate with brokers, clients, grinders and trade houses to keep abreast of global cocoa market developments and to provide information on regional cocoa news.
To evaluate New York and London Cocoa futures markets using fundamental, technical analysis and chart patterns focusing on outright price movements, arbitrage between ICE & LIFFE and spread/switches to capitalize on favourable market movements for profit maximization.
To monitor various aspects of the warehouse operations including stocks levels, reprocessing cocoa and consumable stocks monitoring (gunny sacks).
To monitor sales stocks position and shipments to ensure sufficient stocks are in hand to be delivered to clients at contracted dates with specific quality requirements.
To update and communicate Weekly Shipment Schedules and Weekly Outstanding Items List (Account Receivables Ageing Report / Pending Shipment Schedule / NLWQ Reports)with clients and origins respectively.
To analyse, update and communicate Weekly Procurement Performance and KPI reports for all buying units to ensure team awareness of respective performance strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats as well as sharing and comparing information between buying units.
Responsible for maintaining, building and diversifying client and supplier base.
To implement and expand special projects (Single origin cocoa, plantation cocoa and certified cocoa (UTZ).
To perform quarterly internal audits on all procurement units to check for irregularities and compliance with Group Financial Reporting Standards.
To format seasonal budgets and monitoring of fixed/variable costs against budgets and costs associated with export shipments.
To prepare, monitor and present quarterly cash flow statements, impact of financing costs on profitability and solutions for cost reduction (FIFO, alternative financing, etc)
