PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

ProMedica Health System, Inc., Toledo, OH 2011 - 2016

$3B non-profit integrated healthcare delivery system serving northwest OH and southeast MI, 12 hospitals, 16,000 employees, 750 employed physicians, continuum of care clinics, and service-line institutes; a state- wide health maintenance organization and an academic partnership with The University of Toledo. VP, HR / OD, Learning & Service Excellence

Responsible for overall strategy for its integrated talent management system, workforce analytics, organizational effectiveness, service excellence, leadership development, and its corporate university. Responsible for $1.65M budget, 16 FTEs, and 300+ SMEs / faculty.

Spearheaded the integration of an applicant tracking system, improving time to hire by 21 days; new-hire on- boarding experience by 95%; new electronic employee performance management system with completion rates up over 26% after year one; enhanced learning management system with new student interface.

Dramatically shifted system employee engagement, resulting in increased engagement scores for two years in a row. Physician engagement scores up 4.09 from 3.86 on a 5-pt scale.

Worked to advance the patient experience through the identification, piloting, and scaling of evidence-based best practices and leveraging human-centered behavioral and design concepts. Worked with Cleveland Clinic’s Office of Patient Experience and HPI Consulting as partners on this project, resulting in positive pick-ups of “at risk” value-based purchasing dollars.

Partnered with local operational business units to successfully implement a change management program for the EMR conversion from McKesson to Epic. This work was supported by process-improvement engineering, and with many talented technical trainers (to assist with computer features/functions and skills training). Served as the chief human resource officer, responsible for overall HR strategy, administrative, and financial operations of the human resources group, including employment, payroll, compensation & benefit management, education and staff development, volunteers and auxiliary, labor relations, HRIS, and compliance. Budget responsibility of $125M, 17 FTEs and 300 indirect FTEs.

Served in an expanded role (VP, HR, Professional / Support Services) and led the facilities management, environmental services, safety & security, organizational quality, and professional staff development from 2003 through 2008, and chaired the Hospital Joint Commission’s Environment of Care Committee which included the emergency management program.

Responsible for organizational quality efforts, becoming the first ISO 9001:2000 certified hospital in NW OH market, achieving JCAHO accreditation and earning Level II recognition from the Ohio Partnership for Excellence; and facility Lean / Six Sigma initiative through the Office of Human Resources.

Led HR Transformational Project to leverage technology and communications to enhance HR Strategy by improving efficiency / lower cost of HR administration service delivery model. Improved efficiencies by 40% and reduced FTEs by two.

Experienced with merger and acquisition activity, and due diligence priorities.

Conducted executive compensation reviews for CEO and all Vice Presidents with the Executive Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors.

Launched new compensation program for managers and staff that widened pay ranges to 40% with variable compensation component.

Designed a defined contribution pension plan to replace defined benefit plan achieving 97% satisfaction rate and savings of 2.7% to 3.6% payroll annually.

Replaced organization's health plan PPO with an EPO that included a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), achieving $3M cost savings in year one.

Coordinated a physician wellness program jointly with Chief of Staff and developed numerous work / life programs for hospital operations; employee referral program, work / life incentive program, frequency-based call program, etc.

Developed employment brand strategy "Talk about a Great Place to Work" and branded all HR material.

Incorporated an HR metrics dashboard model to improve managerial decision-making time to hire rates reduced to <18-21 days; with a nursing turnover rate of <5%.

Achieved employee 85th percentile and patient 90th percentile satisfaction scores through Press Ganey based on a comprehensive array of HR initiatives, enhancements, and practices.
