Staff Editor w ith Perfection Learning -January 2011 to March 2016

Perfection Learning is a textbook writ ing company. Over the years, I have had

varied responsibilities, mostly involving writing, editing, and evaluating the non-

source work. Ive composed hundreds of multiple choice questions, as well as

more obscure tasks such as categorizing exercises based on what skill they were

cultivating. I t was an interesting position as I was exposed to a lot of fascinating

w riting.

Contract Writer w ith U ltius Co.-September 2015 to May 2016

Ultius is a custom writing and editing service. I was apportioned explanatory or

persuasive essay assignments to finish on a limited t ime frame. For instance, a

client wanted me to compose an essay within 36 hours on (in their words) why

i n-vitro fertilization should absolutely be covered by all healthcare plans. I t

was my job to make a compelling argument for that in exactly three pages.

U ltius provided me a lot of good experience dealing with clients, some of whom

had unrealistic or nebulous expectations, as well as working on a tight deadline.

Working there also improved my research methods significantly as the topics

could be eclectic.

Blogging for MoviePilot.com and MainScreenMedia.com -June 2014 to

May 2015

I had the pleasure of wri ting entertainment pieces for two blogs simultaneously:

M ain Screen Media and Movie Pilot. Creating movie reviews and in-depth

analysis of recent movies or TV shows was a nice change of pace from some of

t he more academic work I was doing at the point. This was also a great

opportunity to directly engage with readers, which was not possible in most of

my other work.

I wrote pieces for an NBA fan website, B ulls Nation, supporting the Chicago

B ulls in whatever way possible. One example was a piece ti tled Statistically

O ffensive: Why Jimmy Butler is Better than James Harden. Using a wide-range

of statistics, I argued that Jimmy Butler was a better shooting guard than the

w idely-acknowledged league leader: James Harden.

S taff Writer a t the M ount Vernon-Lisbon Sun -September 2013 to May 2014

While attending Cornell College, I wrote for the local newspaper. The editor

would contact me from t ime to t ime to ask for short pieces about what was going

on around campus. For instance, I wrote a piece about the campus-wide harvest

festival that fall. This was a great job because I got to contribute to the lovely

local community; getting my name in print was a bonus.
