PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Quality Assurance Engineer, Unipres Southeast Inc, Forest, MS, January 2013- present
3+ years of extensive Quality Engineering experience at a leading auto manufacturer’s supplier site.
Assure quality of press stampings and automobile body frame assemblies, supplied to Nissan as a Tier 1 supplier.
Provide engineering support on welding processes - resistance welding, arc welding and projection welding as well as press stamping processes – blanking and transfer press.
Work on quality concerns from customers, use 5 Why and 8D techniques to identify the root causes of the concern and institute corrective actions such as changes to operation sheets, generation of engineering change requests, installation of fixtures and poka-yokes, changes in workstations, changes to inspection analyses, changes to process procedures, etc.
Send quality concerns to suppliers for non-conformities found in receiving parts, review countermeasures at supplier plant to ensure prevention and detection for recurrence of the issue
Co-ordinate design changes on parts by conducting design change meetings among different departments and relay information to the customers.
Review all design drawings and changes, operation sheets, process procedures, test procedures, procurement documents, quality manuals, and inspection analyses to ensure that the customer’s quality requirements are met on production parts, programs, areas, and functions.
Create PPAP documentation for new and revised product and processes. Create and update documents like PFMEA, Control Plans, Inspection reports, Production capacity plans, process flow charts, part development record etc.
Visited suppliers for part quality confirmation & approved PPAP package.
Create work instructions and SOS as required.
Thoroughly train technicians/operators on various work instruction such as spot weld location standard, torque test for weld nuts, burr standard for stamped parts etc. to improve understanding of product quality requirement.
Provide support to production departments creating visual aids, small hand gauges and inspection analysis to make “accept” or “reject” decisions on non-conforming material or process.
Provide support to process engineers to improve process tact time by performing jig adjustments. Assisted in eliminating overtime work for various assembly cells
Track part quality on day to day basis based on data collected by quality technicians; make adjustments to press panels and/or assembly line to improve quality of parts.
Support the daily manufacturing activities and work with manufacturing engineers to resolve line issues and implement corrective actions, respond to calls on shop floor on parts and process defect issues.
Perform Gauge R&R, capability studies, receiving inspections, and dock audits.
Perform internal audits inside company for ISO-14001 (Environmental management system) as a certified auditor.
Organize and support customer s quality-related visits and audits and create presentations as required. In case of an audit finding, organize the investigation and ensure corrective actions and verifications.
Prepare summary sheet for customer/supplier defects and update PPM charts for monthly quality status review meeting
Use quality and continuous improvement tools including Lean, Six Sigma, and Statistical process control to develop appropriate measurement systems to evaluate product quality. Improve work process on assembly line, and work on tact time improvements, continuous improvement, downtime reduction, ergonomics, waste reduction, process defect reduction, ppm reduction, zero defect etc.
Come up with cost reduction items such as tact time improvement, JPH improvement, line integration, automation etc. for monthly cost reduction review meetings.
Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing engineering standards using knowledge of product design, fabrication processes, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards
Read and interpret blue prints (drawings), work with CAD and I-DEAS, design measurement fixtures, create inspection reports by interpreting CAD drawing & associated GD&T.
Prepare accuracy improvement plans and work towards the plan to maintain accuracy percentage over 90% on all press and assembly parts
Launch engineer for Nissan Murano and Nissan Altima-Russia launch, planned and coordinated the launch from design phase to start of production, prepared PPAP packages for all production parts and received full approval on all PSWs before start of production to get company refunded on multi million dollars tooling cost
Undergraduate Student Worker, Industrial Engineering, Mississippi State University, August 2012-November 2012
Assisted graduate students with their research works by conducting experiments, compiling data, creating reports etc.
Created brochures for graduate student program
Performed documentation jobs
Undergraduate Research Assistant, Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS), Mississippi State University March 2011- April 2012
Performed various research experiments on re-crystallization study of magnesium alloys, and analyzed stress – strain on extruded Mg samples
Prepared samples forchemical and electro polishing and etching
Studied and analyzed microstructure of samples using Optical microscopy, EBSD, XRD, SEM machines, hardness testing (tensile, indenter machines)
Assistant Building Manager, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mississippi State University, October 2008 – May 2010
Tracked activities of teaching and research assistants using Microsoft Excel and Access
Tracked building inventories
Performed documentation jobs, and small repairs in workshop
