I have managed and owned a business successfully, growing the business in production and quality. My responsibilities as a business owner included but were not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, all year end reports, general ledger, depreciation schedules, tax preparation and other general administrative tasks. Negotiating contracts for long term cost controls with suppliers was a very important part of the business in order to analyzed costs and sales to develop budgets. In order to recruit good, dependable employees I implemented and managed an employee benefit package. Training employees so they could advance their career and increase income potential was a passion of mine, and that included training employees in proper animal handling; breeding, vaccinating, and selection of breeding animals. Arguably, the most important job of mine was to make sure the animals were healthy, in order to achieve that goal I learned how to put together a nutrition package, making sure that they got all the nutrients they needed at the correct time of the year. An important part of keeping them healthy was administering medication as needed. I also developed plans for infectious disease control and worked very closely with the DNR and other government agencies including permit development and adherence. Due to the unique and small industry I was a part of, it was very important to develop close working relationships with not only other ranchers but suppliers, and professional staff. While developing these professional relationships, I worked very closely with CEO’s, CFO’s, and other high level professionals to obtain knowledge, financing, and guidance.
