RETIRED. Responsible for knowing and implementing all safety rules/regulations, and understanding proper train handling instructions as covered by federal law and company rules to be a licensed locomotive engineer. Operated communication systems to communicate with train crews and traffic controllers to ensure safe operation, scheduling of trains, and to ensure the safety of all workers. Primary responsibilities consisted of the efficient and safe operation of the freight and/or passenger trains in accordance with government and company regulations including: traffic control rules, traffic control signals, communicating signals, safety rules, and general regulations. Yearly independent training and testing to maintain the licensing requirements for Locomotive Engineer (Class I) with guidelines of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Washington, DC.. Breadth of experience encompasses skill-based training, problem analysis/resolution, facilitating team members cooperation, supervised and coordinated the activities of team members, proficiencies in federal operating practice regulations, federal and state statutes, rules and regulations that govern railroad operations, rail crossing safety, company policies and procedures. All test dates from 1979 to 2011 with passing grades in the 90% range. Also planned and executed the inspection of assigned locomotive(s), testing of operating controls and equipment.
