Assignment at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory-Jamshedpur:
1. Development of Mg-alloys and composites: I have developed AZ31, AZ61, AZ91, Mg-5%Sn, Mg-5%Sn-2%Mm, Mg-8%Sn, TAS831, Mg-8%Sn-3%(Al-Sc)- Mg-based alloys, both in conventional casting and rheocasting process. Processing of Mg-15%SiCp, AZ91D-15%SiCp, Mg-8%Sn-15%SiCp, TAS831-15%SiCp, Mg-based composites at different particle size of SiCp. Among these composites, AZ91D-15%SiCp was processed both in stir casting and rheocasting process and rest all are processed in stir casting process.
2. Currently working on Melting, Casting, Heat-Treatment, Hot & Cold Rolling, Forging,
Extrusion of non-ferrous metals & alloys.
3. Development of Al based alloys and Composite Materials for Aeronautical/ Automobile
Applications.
Government projects handled:
1.Development of magnesium based rheocast alloys for applications in engineering industries (DST- Project-GAP-0189).
Activities: In the project GAP-0189, I am the project leader of this project and the project is under SERC-Scheme of DST. I am developing Mg-based conventional cast and rheocast alloys for application in engineering industries. The microstructure and mechanical property evaluation of as cast and heat treated conditions, tribological wear behavior study, studies on solidification characteristics, studies on high temperature creep behavior of these materials.
2.Development of rheocasting facility and production of magnesium based composites (OLP-Project-OLP-0038).
Activities: I was the project leader in the project OLP-0038 entitled “Development of Rheocasting facility and production of Mg-based composites”. The set-up was designed by me with the help of Engineering Division at NML-Jamshedpur and fabricated from the out side party. The set-up was installed and commissioned properly. Mg-based composites have been developed with the utilization of this set-up. The project was successfully completed.
3.Extraction of magnesium from indigenous raw material by Magnetherm process. (DST & Department of Mines Project –GAP-0030)
Activities: In the project GAP-0030, My activity was to take care of the magnesium pilot plant operation such as shift operation of the magnesium pilot plant, shut down time repair and cleaning job activities, handling of purchase related jobs for smooth operation of the plant, melting of magnetherm processed out put Mg metal for recovery analysis.
4. NML-Bhilai steel plant blast furnace project entitled’ Reduction of Coke rate using
Probing and modeling technique in BF-5, BF-6 and BF-7 of Bhilai Steel Plant (GAP-
0169)
Activities: In the project (GAP-0169), My activity was to co-ordinate a team of Scientists, Engineers and Co-workers and visit Bhilai Steel Plant and Practically Collect data’s from the Blast Furnace-5, Blast Furnace-6 and Blast Furnace-7 for Mathematical Modelling and Simulation purpose.
5. Microstructural and textural evolution during large strain hot rolling (LSR) of Mg,
AZ31 alloy (OLP-0053).
Activities: In the project OLP-0053, I had an active participation on developing AZ31 Mg-alloy by melting and casting route followed by heat treatment, rolling and characterization.
6. Supra-Institutional project. Development of light Material/Steel foam (SIP-0025).
Activities: In the project (SIP-0025), my responsibility is to develop steel foams.
7. Net-work Project on light metals. a) Development of high temperature creep
resistant Mg-alloys. b) Development of Al-foams. (NWP-0028).
Activities: In the project NWP-0028, I am involved in developing creep resistant Mg-based alloys for engine block by rheocasting process. I am actively involved in procuring equipments as an indentor for this project. I have procured High Temperature Rheometer to study the rheological behavior of Mg-alloys and a hard material cutter to cut alloys and composites. One more equipment i.e., control atmosphere vacuum melting furnace for the processing of Mg-based alloys is under process of procurement.
I am involved in the process of making Al-foams both in solid state, powder metallurgy route and liquid metallurgy route.
8. Development of Silt erosion material for turbine hydro generator. (GAP-0154)
Activities: In the project GAP-0154, I am involved in the Pin-on-disc wear testing activities.
. 9. An Investigation on thermochemical behavior of rockphosphate reduction by
coke. (SSP- 0222).
Activities: In the project SSP-0222, I had worked on processing of raw materials and to conduct experiments for production of phosphorous in the submerged arc furnace.

8.12.2005. The topic was “Metal forming practices” which include rolling, forging and extrusion.
c)I had delivered a talk during Metallurgy for Engineers course held at NML on
12.12.2007. The topic was “Processing of Metals”.
d)I had delivered a talk during CAFP-2008 held at NML on 25.02.2008 to 26.02.2008. The topics were “Semi-Solid Casting” which includes Rheocasting, Thixocasting, SIMA Process and Squeeze Casting “Processing of Metals” and the other topic was “Overview and principles of forming processes”.
e) I had presented a paper entitled “Rheocasting-an advanced semi-solid processing
technology to improve the properties of automotive components” in the workshop on
precision forming: Technology and applications, organised by department of
production engineering, BIT-Meshra, Ranchi, from 15.02.2008 to 16.02.2008.
