ENGINEERING PROJECTS:

Car Parking Occupancy Monitoring May ‘15 – Sept ‘15

Reviewed existing Intelligent Car parking systems to design Car parking occupancy monitoring system for Coventry university car parking lot.

Designed a basic prototype for low cost yet effective Car parking occupancy monitoring system which would be present in the parking lot. Prototype was made using Arduino microcontrollers and software.

It detects the presence of cars in the parking lot and notifies the driver through LED notification.

Further developments and recommendations were proposed.

Load Case Analysis on a B-Pillar of a car using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Sept ‘14 – Jan ‘15

An initial analysis for the existing B-pillar is done. Then to strengthen the B-pillar additional reinforcements are added to withstand the stress applied.

Final analysis on the reinforced B-pillar is done and the differences in results are discussed.

Conversion of Lotus Evora 2.0 engine into a Hybrid system Jan ‘15 – Apr ‘15

Benchmarking of the Lotus Evora 2.0l engine

Scaled down the engine from 2 to 1.6 litres and used Ni-MH based battery which is connected in parallel combination and made a hybrid system.

Packaging considerations for the Ni-MH battery and well to wheel/ CO2 considerations were also done.

The resulting design modification achieved higher mileage, better initial pickup and reduced emissions

Determining Engine Sizing and Powertrain Transmission specifications for a Large Saloon Jan ‘15 – Apr ‘15

Determined Engine Specifications and sizing, maximum velocity and power the engine can achieve for a large saloon.

Determined the intermediate gear ratios for the powertrain system.

Measuring of aerodynamic forces, moments and coefficients on the Lynne Turner Model Jan ‘15 – Apr ‘15

A benchmark study was made using Lynne Turner model where we compare results of wind tunnel test and CFD analysis.

Using Star CCM performed an CFD analysis of the vehicle with various boat tail, diffuser and slant angles

Calculated the resultant force moments and their corresponding coefficients and identified measures to reduce drags. Comparison of both analysis results where stated.

Selection of Appropriate Materials for the Exhaust System of an Automobile Jan ‘15 – Apr ‘15

Using CES Edupack software Selection of materials for the Exhaust system-Exhaust manifold Silencer and Tail pipe was done.

Manufacturing Procedures and Design requirements were dealt for the selection of materials

Advanced materials are chosen for the exhaust system and their manufacturing routes are explained.

Automatic Tilting Headlamps in Automobile Dec ‘12 – Apr ‘13

A basic prototype of the intelligent headlamp system was designed which senses the vehicle making a curve and tilt headlamps about its own axis accordingly.

Using Sensors, Microcontrollers and stepper motors the system tilts both the headlamps to a specified angle based on the rotation of the steering wheel. Further developments and recommendations were proposed.
