Project: ‘Effect of Louvered Strips on Heat Transfer and Friction factor characteristics in a Square

duct using nano fluid’. (Guide: Dr P. V. Vijay Babu, Professor).

Details:

Prepared the Louvered strips with different pitch like 40, 60, 80, 100mm pitch.

Used nanofluid with CuO nano particles in 0.3m3

water tank.

Double pipe square heat exchanger is undertaken in the study.

Two Rotameters are used for flow rate.

Measurements and observations are noted for flow by U-tube manometer and digital flow meter.

While the temperature observations are observed at regular interval by Eight calibrated RTD PT

100 type temperature sensors of 0.1oC accuracy with digital indicator are placed at a distance of

0.25 m apart on the outside of testing section.

Observation shows that heat transfer coefficient and friction factor increases with decreasing

pitch of lourved strip. Also CuO water nano fluid has increased Nusselt number by 74, 58, 56,

and 50% respectively than that of water. This is mainly due to suspension of CuO nanoparticles

increases thermal conductivity that results in enhancement of heat transfer rate.

It is economical to use it instead of expending more money in purchasing new heat exchanger

equipment from the economy point of view.M TECH

Seminar: ‘CO2 Utilization for the Production of Value Added Chemicals’.

Project: ‘CFD Based Simulation of Liquid-Solid Fluidized Bed Reactor in 2D and 3D’.

(Supervisor: Dr. A. K. Jana, Assistant Professor)

Details:

Commercial software COMSOL MULTIPHYSICS 4.4 is used for study with 16 GB of RAM

using Intel Xeon® processor.

Widely used CFD approach Euler-Euler has been undertaken for testing different drag models

and the two different particles for fluidization measurements.

Verticle pipe with 1 in ID and 0.5 m height with 0.1 m solid particles is taken.

Same Geometry is used in 3D study for better understanding of the fluidization.

By Grid sensitivity analysis study firstly the minimum number of grids are chosen to be 15624.

Observations found that out of drag models study Gidaspow drag model shows better movement

of particles and is suitable for the range of particles studied.

Smooth expansion of bed is observed as is the case of liquid-solid fluidization.

CFD approach is economical and it requires less time for setup and testing the performance

instead of actual building the pilot scale plant.

It is very helpful in research as actual implementation can be done by minimizing the errors by

computational testing the processes.

For industry the wastage of actual material can be minimized by optimizing the process

computationally and is widely used in various industries.

KEY SKILLS:
