Dispense medicines according to the doctor's prescription and provide the patient with expert knowledge in terms of use and safety of the medicine.

Ensure that the best treatment option has been chosen.

Working with health care professionals to create the most effective treatment.

Go around the ward on rounds with or without the doctor to ensure an active role in the treatment process in terms of drug prescription.

Ensure that the patient understands the drug, its side effects and any possible interactions with other drugs and diet.

Work with the physicians and nurses and any other health care professional involved with the patient care to create the drug treatment.

Counsel and educate the patients on the effect, dosage and administration. Monitoring the side effects and any interactions is also necessary in case a new or alternative drug treatment has to be prescribed.

Ensure that the medications are all given under sterile conditions and that the storage is as per drug container specifications.

The medication must be checked to ensure the proper dosage is being provided and that the form is appropriate as well (e.g., cream, tablet, inhaler).

Responsible for all the staff supervision and the coordination of any hospital related queries with reference to drugs from the hospital or public.

Handles stocks and order supplies of medicines and drug as well as maintains inventories of pharmaceutical.

Monitor pre-packaging and labeling of medications in unit dose quantities for patients.
